Just received an email response from Credit Collections UK.

I only sent it a few hours ago, so they seem to be very efficient.

Just seen the post about a debt agency from London, so will expect my next letter shortly no doubt...:(

Yep, we've got new letters too, even after getting in touch with EVERYONE that's been recommended on this thread. Flaming annoying. Trust me, if this goes any further we will be taking legal action. My FIL read the letter, had a stressy fit then ended up in Intensive Care Saturday night. Poor bloke has already got a bad heart, he doesn't need this even though we keep telling him we've sorted it. Both me and OH thought it was hilarious considering we actually have SAVINGS therefore don't even need a loan but it's not so funny now the one thing that we didn't want to happen has happened, and that is our almost elderly parents are being affected. All the letters have gone to my OH's parents house and considering he hasn't lived there for 4 years, something most definately dodgy is going on somewhere. Why so many letters from DIFFERENT debt collection agencies???? We still haven't received our CRN from the police either, but we do have a letter acknowledging that my OH's details were amongst the files they have and that our complaint is on file to be used in court if necessary!

I'm angry, very very angry and if my FIL ends up in hospital again, I will PERSONALLY go to the office in Dronfield and shove this thread down their throats!

Funny that the last letter we got from progress debt recovery said that they have asked MCO to come up with further proof that we took the loan or we will be removed from their files.
Yaaay, I finally conned a man into making a honest woman of me. Even more shocking is that I can put the words "Happily" and "Married" into the same sentence and not have life insurance on my mind when I say it ;-)

Sorry to hear about your FIL, but there's really no need to worry. I'm starting to wonder who's scamming who, but unfortunately, if you've been the victim of ID theft before, this is just going to go on and on....

I think MCO know full well who's details are duff, but they'll just keep using them again and again. Touting them out to different agencies...why? Who knows.

There's no proof any of us ever took out the loans in the first place, so they're never going to come after us. If you've contacted the debt agency and MCO, just forget it, you'll hear no more....until the next time they try it, in six months time?

Ironically I was relatively minted at the point when I was apparently in need of a payday loan of £300: two weeks later I blew ten times that on stuff on my car, lol.
  • Hi
I've sent a letter and email to MCO's warwick address today.
I also checked my credit report and they searched it early September twice. I'm glad I did check it as I noticed a previous fraud search hadn't been removed!!
I rang the credit agency who said they would take steps to get it removed and once I said who it was she said 'oh yes, last September a load details went missing and fraudulent loans have been taken out'. She asked if I had reported it to the police. I haven't as yet - wasn't too sure whether it would help or not?

If you ring Actionfraud then they should report it for you.
  • Had a reply from City of London Plod (newbie so links removed):
Thank you for contacting the Operation Galloway investigation team at the City of London Police. The investigation team is currently investigating an organised loan fraud which has affected many thousands of people throughout the UK.
MCO Capital Ltd has been targeted by organised criminal gangs who have used other people’s personal details to make thousands of false loan applications.
If you have received a false demand for a loan in connection with this matter and are yet to report this formally, you should respond directly to the demand letter or contact MCO Capital via the address of:
MCO Capital Ltd, PO Box 6024, Warwick, CV04 9NL
You can also call 0844 8797688 or email them directly at (email addess) Simple notification declaring you have not taken out a loan along with confirmation of your name and address should ensure enforcement action to reclaim the loan is put on hold, pending the police investigation.
Should you have any further information for the investigation team, you can contact us by leaving a short message on 020 7164 8222.

Still doesn't answer the question why MCO are getting debt agencies to send out letters to people again, when they've already told them they haven't taken out a loan.
  • This is a monster thread with 70 pages already. That's huge and it just shows how many people are affected by this. Action Fraud now estimate the number of innocents to have been sent nasty letters at something approaching 20,000!

I received a nasty letter from a debt collection outfit called Northern Debt Recovery over the weekend, accusing me of taking out and then defaulting on a loan and demanding £726.

I called them first thing on Monday morning and found them to be very nasty and unhelpful. They did tell me to write to MCO Capital but when I asked for the address they slammed the phone down.

Since then, I have joined Experian and found that my credit rating is 999 (the highest rating possible) and that nobody has done any kind of identity checks with them in the last year or so.

I also joined Call Credit and Equifax and discovered that nobody has carried out any identity checks on me with either of them.

The letter from the debt collectors was the very first I have heard about this scam, although they said in the letter, "As you have ignored all correspondences your file has been escalated to ourselves to collect through door visit and through solicitors,"

I have never received any other correspondence from MCO Capital or any of their subsidiaries. I've even checked my email archive which goes right back to 1999. I know it's a bit sad but I never throw anything away in case something like this happens.

Action Fraud were very helpful and I have now written to MCO Capital and have also reported this crime to the City of London police's 'Operation Galloway' team. So, I have ticked all the boxes but somehow, I don't think I've heard the last of this.

Here are some things I need to know...

If this scam has been going on for months and everyone knows it's fraud, why have I suddenly been involved now?

If MCO Capital know they have been defrauded, why have they set the dogs on me, especially when they already promised on the 3rd November last year, not to harass anyone else with debt collectors. As a new user here, I can't post a link to the actual article about this but it is still available on the web. Just Google "mco capital" "this is money" and it should be top of the results list.

Why has this enormous scam not been front page news in the papers and on TV?

Why does the Office of Fair Trading appear powerless to close this company down? They've been investigating for months and the police have even made arrests but the nasty letters continue to be sent out to completely innocent people.

Why can't MCO Capital check to see who's bank account they actually paid the loan into before they employ hired thugs to frighten innocent people?

Why hasn't the Government stepped to prevent this scam from causing any more grief? Is there a vested interest?

THIS IS AN OUTRAGE! IT HAS TO STOP NOW!

Having read through most of this huge thread, I get the feeling that the time for writing to one's MP has long since passed. Is it now time to take some proper action?

I've never been an activist and have never been involved in any kind of protest before but as we appear to have been fed to the sharks I'm thinking that a march on Parliament may be in order.

Seriously, a few thousand people marching by with banners and holding up the traffic a bit, might make them realise that they cannot allow ordinary, decent people to be treated this way and that they have allowed this situation to get completely out of control!

Hi Tony. It's a shame we're still getting newbies.

From what I've seen, heard and read, my feeling is that MCO are the ones ripping people off. I really don't know how to phrase it apart from it's an absolutely massive coincidence that they give £3m out in just a week and that £3m has disappeared into thin air and every single person who took the loan THAT WEEK is denying all knowledge of it. 10,000 innocent people are being stung for what was after christmas £5.13 MILLION but is now £7.26 MILLION. If as Tony suggests that number could well be up to 20,000, that is as it stands almost £15 MILLION. In 2 months if it still isn't sorted, add another £3 MILLION to that. I'm sorry but these are not small numbers. Why isn't it on the front page of every newspaper, "20,000 innocent victims being stung for £15 MILLION"

OH has just called MCO. He spoke to a lady that was very pleasant and assured him that he will receive no further letters. Let's see shall we? Especially seeing as though I'd already emailed them 3 times (OH seemed OK to let me take over sorting it out. I managed to get it through to him that it was his parents being affected, not mine.)
Yaaay, I finally conned a man into making a honest woman of me. Even more shocking is that I can put the words "Happily" and "Married" into the same sentence and not have life insurance on my mind when I say it ;-)
