The main trump card of the imac 27" is that it has a 27" IPS screen with 2560x1440 resolution. There are not yet many standalone monitors that match this spec and these will not gice much change from a grand. Eg Dell U2711
Apart from the screen the rest of the hardware is pretty standard really. A possible downside of an imac is that I don't think they are particularly adjustible such as height & tilt and also they only come in a glossy finish with no matte option. Also upgrading the hardware will not be as easy as it is with a conventional standalone enclosure.0 -
I think its a case of "I used it at college so i should have the same at home"
Sadly, its also someone quite deluded about their ability to pay for a consumer item they don't have the money for. If you can afford the repayments - where are your savings? If you have no savings, where does the considerable disposable income go that you'll need to use to pay for a loan on this?0 -

THINK, why are ALL of these posters paying £150 a month rent to mum, why are they all looking to borrow a similar amount. Why are they all 19? Why are all of these posts under different names? !!!!!
Why apart from from one (Di*khead number 1) have they all only just joined the forums?
Just some of many similar posts.0 -
Wow, well I didn't realise this would turn into a witchhunt thing. I've never been to these forums before and was told it was a decent bunch of people but wow, am I wrong.
I just wanted some friendly advice about a purchase I wanted to make, ok, advise me that I should save etc but to call me deluded, a fake poster and to say i'm talking utter !!!!!!!! etc is pretty unwelcoming and unnecessary.
@ringo I'm not really deluded, as I know I can pay for the item quite comfortably as I can make direct payments from my wages for the item.
@ boliston, yeah the screen is ridiculously good and would meet my needs.
@ Stuckonforever, wierdos with fake posts? I don't think so, and you say I go into too much detail about freelancing :S, I only talked about it so people would get an idea why I wanted the thing so included a background post with it being my first post.
@bobthesaver, so I come and ask and it's total !!!!!!!!? I had a genuine question and I get shot down, what a nice community this is. Also, i'm not 19, i'm 22, so well done with your great investigative skills.
@Stuckon100forever, sorry my mistake it was the Tesco Clubcard application I did, got them mixed up as they were the top two on the main page of 0% APR for the first year when I had a look. Which i'm going to get shot down for by you friendly bunch of people.
Ahh well, have fun with your forum.0 -
If you can afford it, save up for it.. Do you need it NOW? Can you use your existing computer for a few months still? This is a moneysaving site after all.. we're just trying to save you money
I earn 3 times your salary (admittedly, i also have about 8x your outgoings) but i would still consider 'making do' until I had managed to save up enough for my fancy consumer gadget. Something i'm planning to do in order to afford one of those new iPod touches.0 -

Just make sure you don't go for second best and get a virus loving ugly PC.0 -
What you are wanting to buy is irrelevant and is your choice, it could be a car, TV or fridge for all I care.
Let's look at the facts.
You want an item that costs £1800 and can't pay cash for it.
You have admitted that you are not good with money.
You have an income stream that ends in November.
You might be able to earn some freelance money after that.
You might be able to get a full time job.
My advice is to save what you can now and make do until you get a full time job or can save up some more from any freelance you get. If you reckon you can pay it off by November then wait until then to buy it.0 -
            well said molerat
The Op is living in a dream world its part reason we got in the mess in first place lending to people who dont have the money and or no good with managing with money
Do as I did when I left school and save to get something big, problem is a lot of young people but by means not all want things today rather than save0 -
You can get a refurbished 27" iMac from the Apple store online for £1,169, it has the same warranty as a new machine.0
