Want £1800 for a new computer

Kids these days are so materialistic. Whatever happened to the days where an evening with a small glass of sherry and a sing song around the piano provides all of the entertainment a family could ever want.
I blame all of the holidays kids get. Christmas, birthday, easter etc it's no wonder they are all craving the electrical goods, clothes and cheap tatty Elizabeth Duke gold from Argos. They all bloody want want want and it's the third world who are suffering for it.We’ve had to remove your signature. Yeah, I understand what you're all saying so think i'll make do for now and save up for when I can afford one.
Just wondering how easy it is to set up another bank account, which i'll use for savings?0 -
Depends on your bank and if you bank online/over the phone. I've set them up using telephone banking very easily before.0

Just make sure you don't go for second best and get a virus loving ugly PC.
I don't want to get into an argument over it (I assume you don't either despite your comments on it when you say yourself you don't know much about computers) but that is rubbish. I never get virus's and no, its not because I'm some sort of computer expert, its because I don't go to dodgy illegal download sites etc. and use a free anti-virus program. Unless you do that, there is no reason to suggest you would get a virus. Secondly, I prefer the look of my laptop to the macbooks - ugly is subjective. I'm sure it would be the same for a PC.
Then there is the fact its apple, so hugely more expensive for the same basic thing. I've only used the MacOS briefly and really didn't like it. I can accept many people would prefer it but is it worth £400 (the difference between my laptop cost and the cheapest macbook) more? I don't think so - nor do most people presumably considering most own PCs.0 -

Each to their own, PC's will cost cost more though than macs over the years..
Yeah i do agree macs are a status thing as well.0 -
You only got 4GB of RAM?
Other than that, it seems like a nice build. I bought my X4 just before X6's were released. Was not impressed when I saw them FS a month later.
Yeah I know, I'll be getting another 4GB pretty soon. Didn't have enough on my credit card at the time and it seemed the best compromise to make for a couple of months
Pity you just missed out on Thuban! It's a beast. Overclocks to 3.75GHz so easily - could probably go higher if I spend more time tweaking voltages, timings, and the like. The 5770's are quite OCable, too.
I've reverted everything back to factory though until I get another monitor there's little point OC'ing as everything runs at 80~120FPS with all MAX anyway :beer:Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Well considering I can buy my laptop again and it would still cost less than the mac then not necessarily (by the time I've gone through 2 windows laptops, the mac book would be ridiculously out of date). Unless macs keep their value and you are talking about selling them or something.
I agree with each to their own though - if you feel the increased cost is worth it to you then go for it. Same with iPods - I hate the increased cost but most people don't as its by far the most popular MP3 player. Maybe the same is slowly starting to happen with macs.0 -
Well I was just lurking but felt the need to reply. You say you need a computer for Web and graphic design. For about £400 you can get a decent PC which will be able to do anything your '£1800' (ludicrous for what you are getting!!) mac can do and far better.
Remember, the architecture they use isn't any different anymore since Apple decided they just wanted MacOS to run on a PC - so they could do it a lot cheaper and flog you it for even more! It's only your cash your're gonna waste!0 -
