    Yes, I second the Conley site. The general theme of the Conley diet is no more than 5% fat in any foods and in fact Rosemary Conley apparently first developed the plan due to her own gall bladder problems. There are several of her cookbooks availible (older ones pop up in the charity shops all the time) and booklets are availible for the fat content of a huge number of foods.

  • Fat free* potato and leek soup:

    Baby potatoes (or you can use regular potatoes if you want, cut into smaller pieces)
    A leek sliced into rings
    Veg stock (or chicken stock cube will work too)
    Herbs as you like, such as mixed herbs and parsley

    Boil the potatoes and leeks in water (barely covering the potatoes) with stock in it, until the potatoes fall apart. Add herbs (and spices) to taste. Use potato masher/fork/blender to make the soup smooth.

    This soup has no fat* or dairy and tastes wonderful, as you can taste the ingredients properly. You can add onions, carrots or any other vegetable you like if you so wish.

    *there might be a trace of fat in a stock cube/powder, although home made stock might have some more fat in it, depending how it's made.

    I've been suffering for around 3 years now, but have only known what was causing it for the last few weeks. I found it was pretty tricky to change my entire diet overnight but I'm starting to learn how to make things more interesting.

    I'm a pretty fussy eater at the best of times, and my taste buds are a little messed up - most veg tastes so bitter I gag trying to eat it. I've found the best way to sort out a diet for yourself, is to write down every single *safe* food at the beginning of the month that you like, do some research and find anything that is under 5% fat that you will eat, then write those down too. By then you should have a large list of ingredients to work with, simply find ways of combining them into meals you like and do a months worth of shopping buying what you need to make those meals.

    I find it hard to stick to a meal plan myself, so I buy things that will last (ie frozen veg) and freeze fresh meat once it's been cut into single portions, and get other things tinned or dried. Then with your list of safe meals to chose from, pick what I fancy, and I know I have everything needed to make it.

    Hi..

    Not had a chance to read through all this thread so sorry if this is repeated.

    I had my gall bladder out nearly 13 years ago. I was given no advice on diet either before or after but had heard about a low fat diet. I was pregnant at the time and found all I could really eat was potatoes, even chips!

    Since having my gall bladder removed, I can eat more, but have to really limit anything high in fibre. So that means not too much healthy food....the complete opposite to what everyone suggests. I have since discovered this is common...maybe the fact that food is not broken down so easily? So if you still get pain or problems, look at your fibre intake and maybe it is that!

    MIL has been having problems with her gallbladder, and is coming home from hospital today. She hasn't had it removed yet. She has been told that she has to have a no-fat diet. Not sure if she gets any sort of fat allowance?

    Does anyone have any recipes or ideas?

    So far I've come up with air-popped popcorn. :)

    All I can think of is baked apple!

    make some apple sauce with bramleys by chunking the bramleys adding a little sugar and a drizle of water and cooking slowly until they break down... OR use a jar ;) stir in some raisins and cinnamon.
    core some eating apples (I like braeburn)
    put some greaseproof paper in the bottom of a tin (or better still one of those baking tray liners from the pound shop) and put the braeburns on it.
    fill the holes with the apple sauce.
    bake until the braeburn allows a skewer or knife into the side easily.

    You will never remove all fat from a diet, but invest in a forman grill, you would not believe the amount of fat they can get out of food you would normally add on to

    Mix tuna with onion & a little tomato ketchup & use on jacket spuds or pasta.
    Salmon baked in the oven on lemon slices served with new potatoes & veg.
    Cod baked with a herby crust.
    Stir fry using a spritz of oil.
    Risottos
    Chicken casseroles & rice or potatoes
    Beef stews
    Make your own savoury rice with a stock cube & veg.
    Pasta with HM tomato based sauces.
    Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.
