Son has been on a similar diet for ages now. It's so very restricting, difficult and boring. He can tolerate very small amounts of fat, but no dairy, nothing processed, nothing with a sauce (that usually contains fat) no red meat and basically nothing with a flavour, lol. He's lost 3 stones but he's bored to tears now.
He has a lot of salmon or other fish (done in tinfoil in the oven) with cous cous and salad.
Quorn mince with a chilli sauce.
Steamed chicken with lemon for flavour, few baby potatoes, veg.
Fat free yoghurt / soya yoghurt
Soya milk
I bought a couple of books from Amazon for ideas but even then, what one person can tolerate may well set off another attack in another. It's all trial and error.Herman - MP for all!0 -
speaking as someone who has had their g bladder out, i would suggest you leave no stone unturned to get the op as fast as possible.it is a very simple op with keyhole surgery but the sheer monotony of the diet and even then reoccurences of sickness can be quite distressing."if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170

Didn't Rosemary Conley invent her diet because of just this problem? Does she still do a magazine? Or a website?"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0

Home made soup with lots of veg and lean chicken also casserole. venison is lean and makes a delicious casserole. season with herbs for more flavour. All fruit, raw or cooked.0

Yes, it's her Hip and Thigh diet. When I had gallbladder problems someone gave me an old copy and I found it really useful.
My advice regarding a gallbladder diet is be careful - I found that even fat free/low fat stuff could trigger an attack, if it was stodgy and I ate too much of it. It's a great way to loose weight (insert sarcastic smiley ...) but I agree with the poster who said try to get the op done as soon as possible, as it's a miserable way to live and the attacks are not nice at all.0 -
I had this problem flipping nightmare. Dr gave me no advice just no fat diet. That was after a ultrasound showed i had a big stone. I was since told going totally no fat is not to good as your gallbladder contracts more or something like that.
What i did go for was a lot of grilled or baked in tinfoil chicken and fish. I used lemon and herbs to flavour them. lots of salad. Tuna in water was nice as well. no fat roast potatoes are not great but try parboiling potatoes with a stock cube for flavour and use fry light spray to stop them sticking to baking pan. I ate loads of jelly type sweets as i was starving i lost 2 and a half stone in a few months. Waitrose do these no fat flatbread cracker things or they changed them to incredibly low fat. They come in flavours like italian herbs and spicy. i know one on its own was less than 1% the seeded one was lovely. They had a cinnamon one thinking about it that i used to dip in coffee instead of biscuits!
Avoid ginger it stimulates gallbladder even more.
My full sympathy to your mil its horrible hopefully they will get her in for keyhole asap. Horrible op its hard to move for a good week and the 2nd week is still painful although you are walking upright then.
Turned out i had a huge stone i have a photo if anyone wants to see it.......0 -
I don't have any recipes for a no-fat diet, however I thought I'd better warn you: when I had gall-bladder problems, the doctor told me that two of the trigger foods are tomatoes and cucumbers (!). I'd never had a problem with either of them but apparently some people do.

Ditto. The painkillers they gave me were worse than useless, too, since they didn't negate the pain from the gas they use to pump up your tummy.
Funny story: I didn't care if I was given my gallstones or not but my husband was fascinated by them when he saw them in the jar they gave me. He took it to work and dissected one to see what was inside (there are photos somewhere on my blog. October 2007, I think). Typical engineer. :rotfl:"Be the type of woman that when you get out of bed in the morning, the devil says 'Oh crap. She's up.'

Just a point after the operation i could not tolerate milk/dairy for ages. I still cannot have that much to often it give me ibs. I was left with ibs symptoms after op. Its mostly settled unless i have sugarfree sweets lol0

I have an appointment with a consultant in 2 weeks time to discuss having my gallbladder out. Why do you need to go on a fat free diet before the op? I thought your diet would only be affected AFTER the op! Please can someone let me know.0
