Feel free to come and join us on the Old Style Weight Loss thread, even if you just read everyone's food diaries you may get some ideas. Soups, stir fries made with no/little oil, jacket potatoes without butter, chicken casserole/curry (yes, I can make a fat free curry!)... just a few ideas.

I can't make fat free mash, my mash is more like a dessert... so I don't have it very often!

Rachbc is right though, you do need fats, especially as some vitamins are fat soluble. Unless you have gall problems a little fat is essential.

But some fat is still essential even if you've had your gall bladder removed, the basic NHS advice is to carry on with what is referred to as a 'balanced diet, avoiding fatty food, not cutting out fat altogether. Ironic really given that a study in 1989 demonstrated that a low fat diet will cause sludge and gall stones in people who were previously without problems. But the symptoms (not the stones) are caused by returning to a normal diet.

Thought I better add a reference - it doesn't state in the summary but the diet was a low fat one, not just controlled calorie.

Like Ragz I can make most meals very low in fat, even lasagne can be made almost fat free as can curries, fish and chips. And with the help of a book called 'the takeaway secret' I can even make a pretty low fat (but not fat free!) donner kebab now! If you can have a small amount of fat then even pizza is an option. Feel free to PM me for advice on how to acheive any of the above, I've been eating low fat for years. Oh and I can also make pretty decent chips and roasties with barely any fat content now too.....anything (well almost) is possible!!!

I don't know about anyone else, but it's carbs that are my nemesis. Bread, potatoes, pasta all make me bloat and get sugar cravings.

I tend to avoid them now, other than bran. And seem to be losing weight as well as the bloating heavy feeling which is lovely!

I can see my ankles now and not just something that resembles a puffed up yorkshire pudding lol.
