Son has been on a similar diet for ages now. It's so very restricting, difficult and boring. He can tolerate very small amounts of fat, but no dairy, nothing processed, nothing with a sauce (that usually contains fat) no red meat and basically nothing with a flavour, lol. He's lost 3 stones but he's bored to tears now.
He has a lot of salmon or other fish (done in tinfoil in the oven) with cous cous and salad.
Quorn mince with a chilli sauce.
Steamed chicken with lemon for flavour, few baby potatoes, veg.
Fat free yoghurt / soya yoghurt
Soya milk
I bought a couple of books from Amazon for ideas but even then, what one person can tolerate may well set off another attack in another. It's all trial and error.
Re the "nothing with a sauce" - would my idea of using tahini sauce in lieu of cheese sauce for instance work?
That is - tahini thinned down with warm water, fresh lemon juice, bit of salt and pepper, some olive oil and use that to pour over things instead of cheese sauce.
Does tahini count as fat-free? I would think so? If so - 'tis one way to get a bit of taste into things...

One other little thought I have FWIW is that I have been studying the protein content of seeds and its HIGH. That applies to every type of edible seed going as far as I can see - so if peeps are thinking "Just HOW do I fulfil my protein requirements if I cant have dairy products?" then maybe every darn type of seed they can think of would do the trick towards going a long way on that front???0 -
Unfortunately as tahini is 50% oil it is very high in fat, although only about 10% of that is saturated.0

I've had my gallbladder out, as has my mother. Neither of us were advised a low fat diet, though have realised it is common sense. However both of us found and still do find that many fruits and vegetables caused attacks and now make us ill. So don't assume a plate full of salad is the answer!0

Holland & Barrat do dehydrated soy chunks which are virtually fat free (<0.5g serving) and suck up flavour really well. They add a nice texture to stews and curries which can be done without fat.
Avoid dairy and meat (except skinless chicken/turkey breast) and any sort of oil. Have lots of fish instead.
If she craves a creamy fatty texture, try blending sweet corn for a baked potato topping (1g fat in 100g) or an improvised healthy corn chowder of plented corn and vegetables with crusty bread.Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -

If it's gallstones, she needs the op, seriously. As someone who (and I don't mean to scare you here, just to make sure you understand the potential the condition can have) was nearly done for at 17 because of complications (read: getting very severe pancreatitis) - I'd recommend keyhole and FAST. No need for the foot long scar I have.
Just as important as fat reduction has to be the limitation of dairy. I found that triggered an attack much worse than fat even. Try a switch to soya milk and yogurts. They're really quite good once you find ones that you prefer.
I have to add though, that since my hospitalisation and surgery, I'm one of the lucky few NOT left with IBS type issues! I can eat pretty much whatever nowOn the up

Before i had my gallbladder removed i found when i was following the weight watchers diet i didn't have a single attack. My triggers were too much fat, raw onions and coca cola or any soft drink that colour. Since my surgery 4 years ago i've had more gall stone type pain, lasting 5 days at it's worst and the triggers are the same. I think a low fat diet is the way to go also avoiding the triggers.0

have a look at the Slimming World recipe thread. Apart from using milk anbd cheese all their recipes are fatless, or contain very little fat.Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!DFW Long Hauler Supporter No 1500

This site has useful and yummy fat free and dairy free recipes, although it's not specifically for gallbladder patients so you'd have to check for trigger vegetables. I hope your MIL gets well soon.0
