Turns out I've been missold a Tesco Platinum Clubcard Credit card too.
1) it's clearly made of plastic and not the platinum I'm entitled to - Trade Descriptions anyone??
2) and what about this "club" thing? Where are the meetings? What are the activities? I was expecting some kind of upgrade to my social life, funny handshakes, obscure rituals etc. All I get is vouchers.
Is it legal? Does Martin know of this scam?
A friend of mine told me that he paid a paid a fee to a debt advice clinic and they reclaimed all the payments for him. Think I'll go this route - and then the Ombudsman.
Seems the fat cat bankers are getting rich whilst the ordinary people suffer.0 -
I can understand how some people can be mislead by the term store card.
A few months back in BHS an elderly lady in her 80's was nearly duped into getting one, this lady was hard of hearing so I heard all the conversation when waiting in line, this lady was offered a store card with a 'great 10% saving today isnt that good' attitude from the cashier, not once did they mention it was a credit card or how much APR it was, I listened in dismay this poor woman thought she was getting a good deal , I was really relieved when asked for her bank details the elderly lady declined the card as she didnt want to disclose them even after the assistant assured her that her bank details would be safe.
I really dont believe this lady really knew what was involved in getting a store card it certainly wasnt explained by the middle aged cashier.0 -
Having to fill out a credit agreement should set alarm bells ringing.
People really need to take responsibility for their actions.0 -

My First Direct Gold card isn't even gold coloured, let alone made of the stuff. It's black, like their ordinary cards, with gold writing on it, -you only get silver writing on the standard card.0 -
I'm amazed at how OP doesn't know difference between a Credit Card/Store Card/Loyalty card.
if anything - the customer sales assistant should have spelled out all the T&C etc *properly* before making you sign on the dotted line and not just assumed that you were getting a 10% discount in exchange for signing up for an unspecified type of *card*.
Just keep in mind for the future. Store cards are the devil's own. I've never had one but have was persuaded ages ago signed up for a Monsoon store card which I cancelled almost immediately so now not got one.
Horrific APRs with store cards - you'd be better off with a CC all the time over a store card.0 -

As stated in the advert - the OP was offered the store card and not a Credit card.
BUT, ITA if anything stores should be far more well informed as to what they're selling to *innocent* customers. who may or may not understand what they're being sold....0 -

The understanding comes into play not when listening to the sales advisor but reviewing paperwork to sign.
The responsibility is 100% that of a customer - if they can't read or understand what they're signing, they shouldn't sign it. If they do anyway, that is 100% their fault and responsibility.
If a sales advisor specifically and clearly states that they are being offered a "STORE CARD" as opposed to a Loyalty Card it is blatantly obvious that this is a line of credit. And that's before a sodding great sheet of paper with "CREDIT AGREEMENT" strewn across the thing comes out from under the counter...
I can't believe the naievety, ignorance, and irresponsibility of some people today I really can't.
Which reminds me, my Silver card contains no Silver either. I must get on to the FSA about that as I was lead to believe I'd receive a Silver card and it's PLASTIC!
Has anyone else fallen victim to this SCAM?Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48
