Tricked into getting a Debenhams credit card, are employees on commission?

Options
When purchasing some pillows I was asked if I wanted a 'store card' and I could get 10% off today's purchase. I said yes and was then asked a series of questions about my address, employment status etc. which I thought was OTT but since she'd already swiped my current credit card I assumed these were just necessary details for the store card. Low and be-hold, just as I thought everything was finished she pulled out the credit card agreement!

I was shocked and annoyed because she had said store card, though at the time I assumed I must have made a mistake. I quickly read the agreement to check that, ultimately, I will get the 10% and can pay the card off in full immediately, which I can. So I signed up for it.

Are these people on commission to get you to sign up because I'm sure I was duped into it?

I fail to see where you were tricked and duped, to be honest.

Yes they are on a commision, but I cannot see what your problem is. Just cancel the card after you have got the discount.

  • What do you think a "Store Card" is?
  • I've had a MBNA "visa card" for a few years. They send me a monthly statement and I send them money.

Now I find out that it's a "credit card".

Have I been miss-sold? The balance is over £10,000. Do I have to pay it back?

    Is it legal?

Have you been paying for goods that you've purchased using this card? If so then that's just a standard use of any kind of card, credit or otherwise. I don't think you can have any qualms with them on this and the fact that MBNA are one of the biggest credit card providers should go to some way explaining what you have from them.

I think some people assume, they are getting a points loyality card and not opening up a credit account and thus getting a store card.

I suppose it could affect people, if they are given say a £1000 limit and it means their credit used/available, now prevents them from getting further
    credit.
