You weren't tricked at all. depending on your credit worthiness you will either be offered a store card or credit card, you were obviously offered the store card.

And yes, the employees will be on commision, I had a debenhams store card when I bought a suit, got a reet ol bargain
Just cancel it if you don't want it.0 -
store card = credit cardGordon_Hose wrote:What do you think a "Store Card" is?
Some of you don't know that there is a difference between their store card and their credit card. I have circled the store card in blue in the photos below so that you can understand. Both cards give you 10% discount off your first purchase. The lady selling me the card offered me the store card and, after swiping my credit card and asking me a few questions, presented me with a credit agreement. If none of you can see the attempted trickery here, especially in light of the fact that they are on commission, then you are being deliberately obtuse or unintentionally ignorant. ILW, thanks for answering my original question about them being on commission. Don't worry, I will pay and cancel.
As I said previously, I still checked the agreement and ultimately I will still benefit from the 10% and pay it off in full. What I was annoyed about was the way she got me to sign up for it, hence why I wanted to know if they were on commission. I will pay it off in full and it will be hunky dory but I expect Debenhams employees to act with more integrity and responsibility since many customers could end up getting another credit card they didn't want and forgetting to make payments etc.0 -
... but a store card is the same as a credit card. They offer you a line of credit to use at their stores. No 'trickery' at all.PMA - Positive Mental Attitude
It works for me - you try it!0 -
A store card you can only use the credit in Debenhams. A credit card you can use anywhere you see the mastercard symbol. They are 2 different things.
You either have the store card, or the credit card.0 -

You obviously not reading the words at top of this leaflet that clearly state " personal finance ".

Methinks that gerardflanagan is confusing a store card with a loyalty card....My posts are my own opinions based on my experiences and info gathered from sites such as this.

Isn't a store card just a credit card that you can only use with one retailer?
If so they are still both credit cards, one is just more flexible than the other.0 -

I don't think you can have any qualms with them on this and the fact that MBNA are one of the biggest credit card providers should go to some way explaining what you have from them.
Do people really have to put smileys on something to point out that it is a joke?
(Or have I fallen for a double bluff?)loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0 -

I think you'll find what has actually happened here, is that you have become confused with the difference between a Store Card and a Loyalty Card.
Whilst every Joe can't be expected to know all of the credit jargon, I certainly don't know anyone that doesn't know the difference between a Store Card and a Loyalty Card.
Either way, it is unfair to hold a Demenhams employee responsible for your mistaking a Store Card for a Loyalty Card.
The fact that they are on commission is inconsequential - have you tried surviving on a sales assistant salary without commission?Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48
