After reading on here that the meat is excellent, I've managed to spend £114 without leaving the house.
DD and her Fiance went there today and I rang and gave her a shopping list, getting her to tell me the dates and how lean the meat was etc..
I'm looking forward to trying the lamb steaks, stewing steak, braising steak, sirloin steak and mince. Just need to make room in the freezer now.

Oh and she got a cake for hubby's birthday on Wednesday.
    Thanks for the tips

(probably not worth the membership fee alone but it convinced me to join!)

  • can anyone tell me
is cosco as cheap as makro ?
do they have the same type of stock?
can you veiw the passport or offers online?
do they allow you in as a visitor on a day pass without spending anything?
i would like a look around and don't want to buy a membership if i don't like the place

I've not really been to Makro but other people that I know have told me that costco is cheaper and that the stock in costco is similar but better organised. I don't think there's anywhere that has costco offers on line. As for going in on a day pass I'm not sure but if you know anyone with a card then you could go with them and have a look as they can take upto two guests. If you did join and didn't like it the paperwork says that they will refund the money at any time if you want.
    Hope that helps.
  • If anybody goes to Costco, can you let me know what they have in terms of tumble dryers?
I haven't had a look at whether they've got any others but they've got an offer on a whirlpool condenser dryer AWZ7913 between 15/10 and 21/10 save £40 which makes it £159.99 ex VAT or £187.98 inc VAT

Could I make a plea please, that someone post up the passport offers and dates.

Apparently they only send out passports to primary card holders but you don't actually have to have the passports to have the discount - the cashiers will ring them up anyway. Unfortunately they can't tell you what they are unless it's the actual week they're on.

    Thanks folks!!!
I don't know if they're supposed to but in my local costco they'll give you a copy of the passport at the customer service desk if you ask them whether your a primary member or a additional member - don't know if that helps

  • My boss at work refused to sign us up for Costco cards even though we were willing to pay for them!! I don't see why, it's not like we can damage the company's reputation with a Costo card :( And he gives the area managers cards for free to buy us stock like loo rolls but they get to use it for personal shopping!! It's not fair!
If your boss won't do it for you then individual membership is about £30 but they'll let you add a 'spouse' for free - in my experience this can be any mate you fancy splitting the membership with. A third person can be added for an additional £14.10. As someone else mentioned only the 'primary card holder' is sent the passport (although in my local store they'll just give you one if you ask) and is responsible for paying the membership renewal so you'd have to go with mates you could trust to give you the money BUT this way it works out about the same price as it would be to be added to your companies account.
  • They're not supposed to - only the card holder is supposed to put stuff through the till although in my experience the till staff will just do it anyway. If on the off chance they don't they tend to have cash machines in store and you can always give the cash to the card holder and ask them to put it through for you.
