Does anyone shop at Costco

The descripton was 'chunks of chicken breast coated in bread crumbs' so they probably are! (I hope).
Still a bit alarmed at them being shipped halfway around the world in a frozen state though!

How much is a NHS membership please ?xxxdxxx
With compassision, good manners, kindness and dignity as your ticket you will travel far in life.0 -
membership is £25 a year if your in the nhs/police etc.-its classified as individual membership which means you can shop from 12-8pm (trade members can go earlier in the morning also). I found i save the £25 a year on washing powder/dog+cat food alone. check out the website, think you have to bring a nhs payslip from the last 3 months+some other form of id-check on the website though. Membership was done on the day i went, digital photo taken, and as said above you can bring someone else with you-so my mum comes with me, and we stock up in 1 go.
I second the birthday cakes-brought one for my sons 2nd birthday for a tenner-giganormous and tasty-fed everyone (friends, family, neighbours, did the party bags too, and sent chunks back home with family!!)-cost the same if not less than a tesco/marks one which is a quarter of the size. You can get personal messages put on them if you order it in advance, but my nearest costco is a good 15-20mins drive away (hence we only go there once every 3 months and stock up!), but i got the rainbow cake which says happy birthday on it, and i just added in the same colour icing my sons name and age-looked fab.
The other things i tend to buy in bulk are-comfort-2xmassive 5litre bottles for about a fiver, washing powder, animal food, 4litre bottles of robinsons squash for about 2-3quid, and fizzy drinks.
-just reminds me, should really go back as am down to my last packet of washing powder, could do my pre christmas shop!!Mortgage free 04/03/2025. Thanks to this site and lots of overpayments bit by bit.
Next stop: house repairs, holiday fund, replace our very old cars, more financial security/early retirement savings.🤞0 -
I had costco membership a few years ago, and although I found many things cheaper, 2 for 1 deals at Supermarkets and sales/special offers do mean you need to pricecheck before you go. A lot of electrical/computing and software items are on the pricey side I think but that's by comparing with online prices where customer service can be zero. Biggest bargains were things like Gillette blades (a lot more genuine than the ebay cheapies
), meat is really good too, and I don't think anyone has mentioned the giant pizzas! I'm also told that car tyres are good value.
I wonder if some sites are better than others though?
I may have to rejoin just to get cat milk in bulk
Final point. If you think you are not getting value, I believe they will refund the £25.0 -
Its a good idea to register your e mail addy on their website. They don't spam you but they do send out the occasional extra deals in addition to their in store passport book. These are printable vouchers to use in store. For example, the latest one includes £1 off their huge own pizzas. Not much I know but better than nothing.0

I have always been a bit skeptical about Costco (price comparison wise). My OH insists on the membership (partly because his mother likes shopping there I suspect). However, we returned a faulty printer this week - no receipt, and out of the manufacturers guarantee period. They returned the money no questions asked as they could see we had bought it from membership records. A relief as we deseperately need a printer but couldnt afford a replacement.0

We love Costco. For a number of reasons, I think they are definately cheaper in the washing powder/softner/squash area - especially the amount we go through as a family. Their loo rolls are definately a good buy, when they have a special deal on them!
I think the meat quality is second to none, buying mince, chicken, fish and joints there every time we go. Their cookies are as nice if not nicer that Millies Cookies and considerably cheaper. They do fantastic stuff for Christmas. Not necessarily the cheapest, but in terms of good value and quality well worth the extra few pence.
Yes we love the giant pizzas, only just getting it in our oven at home and the tray it comes in very useful as an additional tray for bbqs! We've have the birthday cakes before and for a tenner they are just huge (as mentioned by another poster) my LO shared a birthday party with her friend one year and there was more than enough cake to go round.
I think the cafe is very good value for money too! Cup of tea for 25p (or is it 35p not sure can't remember but good value either way), slice of pizza for just over a quid, and it's a big slice. Jacket potatoes with various fillings for just over a quid too. Frozen yoghurt and their smoothies are lovely.
We've spent a fortune in Costco over the years but still maintain the membership cost makes the savings worthwhile. It is frustrating sometimes that you can't use credit cards, but credit card companies charge for that privilage, so prices would go up. Also their customer service policy is fantastic - I too have taken items out of their guarantee period with no receipt and received a full refund.
I think if you need to buy in bulk and you have the ability to join and there is one near you - they are well worth having a look at!

I've shopped there for a few years now - there are bargains to be had just check what you buy carefully as not everything is cheaper. I recommend the barrels of washing powder. They are about 10quid and it works out cheaper than any other brand per kilo. It also washes really well at the low temperatures - so you save on energy too - and you only have to use a tiny amount. I think it comes from the USA and their machines are different so maybe its more concentrated. With a family of 4 (2 teenagers included) a barrel lasts me about 4-6 months. Try it! You can also take 2 guests if you are a member. If you want to try before you join why not find out if anyone you know is a member and get them to take you along. Its also worth printing out the prices of stuff you buy regularly from the stores you usually shop in to compare prices. If you buy the bulk offers you really can save a packet. The quality of the meat is second to none!! Blimey, I sound like I've got shares in the place....I haven't - honest. :rotfl:0
