Yes me too. Take care xxPaid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -

Thanks everyone, starting to feel more like myself today but apart from taking the children to school I'm not actually doing much else.
Builders are here today for the first time since before Christmas! We have been delayed by the roof design done by the architects and roof company have had to amend them. Roof was meant to be done this week and knock through next week but as it stands the roof won't start until the 23rd. it's not a huge problem as the extension doesn't impact on our existing living space, it will just be nice to have it done.
Re: the car Alex, unfortunately my dh skills are not diy or car maintenance based. He does the basics but the brakes will be left to the garage. This did leave me wondering where my own children will pick these skills up from? Dh says his dad never showed him but you've got to break the cycle somewhere!
Not much MSE activity happening, now in single figures until payday so might be tempted to siphon off some more money from current account. We have plenty of food so the food account is also looking like it may end up being shuffled too.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Hi Cath,
I have just read back the last few pages of your diary - we sound very similar, always running at full pelt putting everyone else before us! I have a stinking cold, sore throat and aching to high heaven - today I am on the sofa, under a blanket, watching a film. I'm only going back out later to do the school run - we mustn't feel guilty, we need to rest and repair ourselves.
Your goals are fab. We are not going abroad this year (kids only 4 and 2, too much like hard work!!) - I can't wait until we can take them on an all inclusive sunny holiday in years to come! xMFW

Hi ATB, I think so too, life of busy mums hey. Sorry to hear you're feeling poorly. Colds are rotten as they make you feel so awful. Will pop across to your diary for a catch up.
Our children are 8 and 5 so a slightly bigger gap than your two. I had hoped last summer would have been our first holiday abroad but with one thing and another it didn't happen. They can also both swim which is one thing I also wanted to be sure of. There are loads of 'kids clubs' at our resort and there are some fab reviews and posts on their fb page. Have got to the point where I'm counting down the weeks!
£6.09 paid off cc yesterday to round it down. £380 left to find, this was £964 at the beginning of the month :j
I managed to potter a bit a bit yesterday and felt like something had lifted which meant I felt a lot better. Lung still painful though which I think is there to remind me not to overdo it! I certainly don't have the same energy levels today I did yesterday.
Finally caught up on Sherlock and can now understand why people were watching the episode again! We didn't particularly enjoy one Christmas special which put us off slightly but this series is simply brilliant!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Oooh we haven't watched Sherlock yet, but we have recorded it, can't wait to watch it
Well done on paying some more off the CC, when are you hoping to have it paid off by? Do you mind me asking about swimming - did you send your kids to private lessons or ones run by the local council? DD went to some at the local baths but they weren't great (plus we had to get in with her, and I hate swimming), so was thinking about re-starting when she is 5 with private lessons on a 1-2-1 basis. Sorry to go off topic a bit! x

I was told I looked like the living dead at work yesterday! Sofa day for me too, I'm constantly exhausted. I think we all need to move to sunnier climes!Mortgage Jan 13 99260.00 87253 April 2017

Ours have lessons in a fab swim school. There are loads of options locally at localmgyms and council run baths but when I tried to enrol DD at one of these there were no spaces and they said I needed to ring up every week to heck if a space had come up. I was doing my masters at the time so had no headspace or time to do this. Anyway, where they have both learned involves a 40 mile round trip but to us it totally worth it. Small classes of 6 and always 2 instructors in the water with them until they go into stage 4. Ds started when he was 3 two years ago and has now gone into stage 3. I'd asked about private lessons when I thought ds wasn't progressing but the owner recommended just going 'fun swimming'. I don't even know if that answers your question!I was told I looked like the living dead at work yesterday! Sofa day for me too, I'm constantly exhausted. Hope you're feeling better soon Muser. I've looked back at photos of us at CP and I look horrific! I felt ok at the time!!
Managed to pay another £104 off the cc today, think it's down to ?£296 now. This payment came from us having £52 spare in bills account each month so used Dec and January. I'd forgotten about this excess and it's just here if any utilities increase. Card needs to be paid by 7th Feb but at this rate we will be able to pay the holiday off this month too! Although this may increase my desire to book another holiday in the sun!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Wow it's cold today! I braved it without CH until about 1pm but had to give in as despite a blanket on my knee I was frozen! DS refused to wear a hat this morning so I had to sneak hat and gloves into his backpack! Food shop done after the school run, spent £40 amd this included 3 bottles on wine. DH wasn't impressed I bought spirallised veg since we have a newly purchased spiralliser but in my defence @ldi don't seem to be selling courgettes at the moment! :rotfl:
Havent found any funds as yet to pay off the cc but now the food shop is done and petrol topped up, we can leave ourselves a tight budget for the remaining week until payday. Just have piano lessons to pay for midweek but that's budgeted. Dd football training is cancelled tonight so may pay that extra £2 off the cc
Car was checked at the garage yesterday and brakes are fine with lots of depth (no idea of right terminology) on the brake pads so no expense there and the check was free.
Glass of wine planned for this evening and movie night with the children and then just DH and me to finish the film we started warching last night. Back to work next week on a phased return, can't wait to get back to normality!
Stay warm everyone and hope those of you on the East coast are all safe.

Thanks for your reply about swimming Cath
Your evening sounds fab and not dissimilar to ours! Enjoy that glass of wine xMFW
