So, now I am back with a renewed focus.- We need to hammer down the 0% cards which funded the kitchen (and denied us the new mortgage!)
- I need to get over my boxroom issue! (have been looking at storage options)
- Save for extension (could survive with fitted out boxroom until then)
- Possibly sort out garden to make safer for children (it's currently on two levels, was thinking lower level patio could be built up with decking?)
- of course overpay what I can - are on track to get sub 100k September but would love to bring this forward a month or two.
I would like to sort out my boxroom too, for one thing it has the boiler in there so a big cupboard for that which is a pain. Dont think its cost effective to move it until I need a new boiler.
Storage solutions would be good but £1600!!
I would love to have built in wardrobes in my room too but not really cost effective. would also love to go up into the loft but keep thinking I shouldnt really spend all this money on this house as I want to move in a 6-8 years so sell it to someone else to do what they want to but can I put up with it for that long
Have also ordered some fitted bedroom furniture for the box room so DD can go in there (she is 4) but I think it will suit her needs better than the 16 month old. It cost around £1600 but we see it as an investment as if we come to sell in the future the room will present much better. It should be done in a few weeks and I can't wait!MPs left feb '08 276- Dec 13 36 :T MB Jan 10 ~ £82,377 Dec 13 ~ £29987

Am probably wasting my money anyway Pammy as both children still end up in my bed at night!
Want to move our bedroom around as we have bought a new bed and bedside tables and doesn't all fit with current layout. Our wardrobe is huge and needs moving across the room, I wonder how energetic DH is feeling after a busy week in work?
Mortgage has gone out today so sig updated, balance doesn't feel like it is moving much due to other commitments. I wonder if I should do a WIOTW (what i owe the world) breakdown like Michelle used to.
Am full of cold so am hoping for a quiet evening in front of the tv and some vino. I have worked A LOT this week and am doing a course on one of my days off so I am shattered!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Have a good weekend cath and hope you feel better
MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0 -
WIOTW is a great stat to track. Most stats are great things to track. As you can guess from my sig, I'm a firm believer in tracking as many stats as possible, to maximise the probability that one or other of them will get to a milestone in any particular month.

Enjoy moving your bedroom round. I hope you get it how you want it.Starting again 13/4/19Home loan 1: £21,102.50 Home loan 2: £7,698.99Total owed: £28,801.49

WIOTW figure done and added to signature, it's £114,740 and includes current overdraft which funded the roof repairs, credit cards (0%) and the mortgage. Wasn't as frightening a figure as I expected it to be.
Seem to be buying more stuff lately than we are selling so need to rectify that.
Spent some time tidying the garden today and I really think we need a new patio, ours has some cracks and there are gaps where it meets the house so I am worried about damp. Maybe we need a garden savings pot.
Have another overtime shift this weekend, get another payrise next month and I am hoping that DH and I will benefit from the tax code changes when they come into effect and have more in our take home pay. We will lose tax credits though I think as of next month so it all balances out.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
I have some time off at last! Work is just exhausting at the moment which re-ignites the desire to get rid of this mortgage.
Supermarket shop done with a scary total but did include a gift for a birthday party later. Hopefully I will be able to do some batch cooking though to offset the cost.
Still have some work to do with getting the bedrooms swapped around. Surveyor coming next week and bedroom should be fitted by end of the month. For our bedroom we need to get rid of triple wardrobe and buy chest of drawers (I sense an ikea trip!) Have A LOT of decluttering to do first though. Wish me luck!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Hello,
Overtime shift done and surveyor is coming later to finalise details for bedroom furniture. Just done some tax credits calculations and I think we may scrape through for some help with childcare next year so I need to reduce my voucher amount as will build up too much otherwise. Won't have childcare fees for dd after July which will be nice as I feel like I have been paying it forever. Will have more money in my take home pay which will be fab and of course used as OP's!
Anyone got any thoughts re: a company pension where they are only contributing 1%? Doesn't seem worth it to me?
Reached payout on Newvista a few days ago. Anyone know how I will receive it? When I looked it seemed that it had automatically redeemed it for me?June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Surveyor seems happy enough with box room plans. I have arranged for an electrician to come and move a socket as there are going to be lights above the bed. Have chased up some back pay I am owed from work, i'd almost slipped through the net <tut tut> employers for being a bit quiet about what we were owed! I have no idea of the amount but expect to receive it in May's pay.
Sold a couple of items so will get them posted on the school run. It's too cold to venture out otherwise. Also have read gas and elec meters and am hoping I have paid back what I owed so they will reduce my DD back down to a reasonable amount.
It's mine and DH's wedding anniversary on Friday and I have no idea what to buy him! I wouldn't mind something pretty for the house but he wouldn't appreciate that as a present.
I am having problems getting roofer back to do a job on the work he has done. He has been promising to do it for weeks but I am left with leaking guttering after paying out a lot of money. Any advice?June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Hiya Cath, I would suggest that you ring your roofer , and say that you want him to come within the next 3 days as with the weather , the leaking gutter is making it dangerous ( and if snow on it - it will damage it furher and undo all the work that he has done). I am sure that if you say that he will soon be around.
Good luck!!Dec 2011 £141,000 / dec 2013 £135,000/ Jan 2014 £131,000 / July 2014 £129 0000
