Bingo money received and paid straight off the credit card. Have some surprise roof repairs that need to be done so am wondering whether to crack on with the extension save having the work done twice. It really is never-ending isn't it?
Popped to M&S earlier and spent far more than I should have - whoops!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Getting through the M&S buys quite nicely, something about the snow makes me was to eat sweet things! DD's school closed at lunchtime so walked up for her as was not braving the dangerous driving conditions. Totally out of money now until payday next week. Don't really need anything but that's not the point, I like having spare cash to save or OP!
Hopefully we can catch up later in the month as more cash credits the account.
Have no major plans for the weekend, probably just some snow fun with DD tomorrow then back to work Sunday. Have enjoyed being at home on my week off so it's a shame annual leave has to end.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Hello
Was pleasantly surprised when I logged into TCB earlier to find almost £90 payable so I requested it immediately! That will certainly help with the kitchen expenses. Also sold an item so made another £6.
Payday tomorrow and lots to pay out  I am hoping that all the weekends I did throughout December and the overtime shift was worth it financially.
Also had a quote through for some guttering and roof work whether we have one or both jobs one depends on my wage. My house just feels like the biggest money pit at the moment.
Have a few things to do tomorrow:- Sort finances
- Set up new direct debits for accounts
- Ring builder once decision made.
- Tax car
- Post parcel
- Ring up about a local course
I feel like I'm making hardly any OP's at the moment which is a bit disheartening. I will get back on track though once all these major expenses are out of the way.

Thankyou PD, pay was surprisingly good!
Our options with the roof are:
1) Replace guttering (desperate to be done)
2) Do guttering and gable end (cosmetic only and will double cost)
Was swaying towards both but as we plan an extension (eventually) both gable ends could be done then and we could save £250. Guttering could be done immediately as I have the ££££'s
Have a few overtime shifts booked and seem to have significantly underestimated my yearly earnings for TC so may be due backpay after reassessment :j We may lose them completely next year so anything is a bonus!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Mortgage has gone out today so sig updated. Think that is the only way I am going to knock a month off my mortgage at the moment!

Roof work started yesterday but have noticed a few cracks in the ceiling below this morning which I assume is from the banging. I'm wondering if they will knock some money off????
I actually managed to get DS to nap upstairs this morning so I have managed to tidy and clean kitchen, thoroughly wash highchair (so I can sell) and hang a load of washing on the line. It's a gorgeous sunny day here, cold but you can tell Spring is on its way. It spurred me into cleaning anyway!!

I've had a busy couple of weeks! We very nearly part exchanged the house on a new build. Was a decision which caused lots of sleepless nights as was a huuuge mortgage and would have complicated things such as work commute and school run but the house was stunning. Was about to go for it last night but we couldn't get the mortgage despite previously getting through affordability criteria. tbh I am very happy the decision was made for us!
So, now I am back with a renewed focus.- We need to hammer down the 0% cards which funded the kitchen (and denied us the new mortgage!)
- I need to get over my boxroom issue! (have been looking at storage options)
- Save for extension (could survive with fitted out boxroom until then)
- Possibly sort out garden to make safer for children (it's currently on two levels, was thinking lower level patio could be built up with decking?)
- of course overpay what I can - are on track to get sub 100k September but would love to bring this forward a month or two.

I here your pain, we're going through similar things at the moment although we didn't get as far as actually applying for a mortgage etc. We've decided to try and do a loft conversion instead.... would this be an option for you?0
-
Good luck with the loft Lulabelle, It wouldn't suit our type of property unfortunately as there isn't enough roof height.
Do you know what happens when you don't post on here for a week or so??? You spend money constantly!!! I have been buying house things to pretty up the place, new bedroom furniture, new bed and mattress, bedding, pictures and other bits and pieces. My kitchen-diner now looks very pretty. Still need some organising in the bedroom but we are getting there
Have also ordered some fitted bedroom furniture for the box room so DD can go in there (she is 4) but I think it will suit her needs better than the 16 month old. It cost around £1600 but we see it as an investment as if we come to sell in the future the room will present much better. It should be done in a few weeks and I can't wait!
Have been doing overtime at work so hoping that has offset some of the extra spending. Still in overdraft but will end the month positively!
Will read some diaries this evening to gain some inspiration and get me back on track!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Hi cath, sorry to hear you had the mortgage declined. Things have changed so much mortgage wise in the last couple of years. I've also recently found out that we won't be able to get any mortgage at all ( even remortgage ) for at least 3 years as dh is now classed as self employed. So we have just taken the plunge and got a loan out to do the loft conversion I've been thinking about for the last 3 years.
Like you it feels a bit of a relief to finally have the decision made for you.:o If it makes you feel any better my dd is still in a tiny box room (enough room for a small chest and single bed only) and she is 16 this summer, she loves her room though, we managed to squeeze all her bits in there on high shelves, window sills and in storage divan. It's her little space with all her books/ tv etc. and trust me even though its so small we regularly have 4/5 teenagers squashed in there for a few hours at a time watching films :rotfl:
Anyway, I'm waffling a bit here, all the best
MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁0
