It looks like Amex have been hit with some bad debt and are drawing back limits for people they believe will cause them more problems!
This is like booking me for speeding because I drive a sports car (when I have not actually gone over the speed limit)!
Damage limitation whatever - still think they are treating people badly!
I certainly dont agree with their "ongoing credit search and score"!

I see your point but how do you expect businesses to proceed?
They do need to make decisions and they can't send an investigator round to every house and interview everyone.
I understand it's frustrating if you are on the wrong end of a decision but at the end of the day they are a private company.
They can chose not to give you the privilege of credit if they wish as they are a private business.
It's a bit like me not inviting you to my party and inviting everyone except you.
You might think it's unfair, but it's my party so it's entirely up to me and I don't have to tell you why if I don't want to.
But I do sympathise.0 -

Give 'em a call and see if they've received your application.
If yes, do nothing
If no, reapply.

I recently got my first job, working in advertising. I'm 20 years old and living at home with parents.
I'm earning above the threshold minimum required to have an AE card. However, I'm really impressed with AE's benefit offers (such as the green card).
What are my chances of AE granting me a card? I don't really want to apply if I'm wasting my time.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.0 -
Also check the site to make sure it's not only over 21 years old as a couple do that now.Not knowing your circumstances ie whether you've got any bad credit we can't possibly comment. But if you fit all the criteria then there is no harm in applying.Good luck.0

Hatone, I'm 20 and got a nectar Amex. they asked me for proof of income.
Only bad info on my file is 1 3 day late payment on my Nationwide CC. But I have been building my credit rating from the day I was 18 so have a fairly good history for a 20 year old.
My income is 24000. You may as well try, worst they can do is say no.
Oh they tried to give me a limit of just £700 but I complained as they had told me my limit was £1400 over the phone and they did honor their TAs mistake!Kavanne

This is my first credit card. My concern is, credit card companies might consider a first time user as too much of a liability than a person who has used credit cards in the past.
I have a visa. Does that count as credit history?
AE seems to be the best card company that rewards reasonable standards of benefits.
You have to be 18 or older to have an AE. I meet all the required criteria, but I'm unsure whether they'd consider me untested to grant me a card.
If supposing AE rejected me now, does that mean I can no longer apply for an AE in the future?0 -
I think people who are in the low-20's are more likely to be accepted for a Green Charge Card or Amex CC than any of the others. Of course this depends on your credit history (phone contracts help a lot in this case!). If it's your first ever credit agreement I'm not so sure that they'd accept you straight off...but you can always call their applications helpline and ask first.
I was accepted only 2 weeks ago - got a phone call from a pleasent chap welcoming me to Amex etc. which was a nice surprise since I was waiting for a confirmation through the post! Card arrived at the end of the week with the pin.
And yes, they're call centres are UK based (thank god!). I actually have a friend who works in the Brighton call centre. I'm only 23 (nearing 24) and got a limit of £3,300 which is fine for now but I have recently decided I want the Gold/Platinum Charge Card too (the CC is just for business use).
I called them up asking how long I'd have to wait until I can apply for a charge card and they also quoted me six months... Guess I'll just enjoy my 5% cashback for now.
By the way, here's the Brighton-based call centre number in case you're using Skype or can't call an 0800 number (from a mobile for example): 01273 620 555.0 -
Laxe, so you need to have a normal amex CC for at least 6 mnths before applying for a charge card? That's good to know, thanks!Kavanne
