Just received my first statement, eh?? I only received the card and pin on the 24th April, so how come it is dated from the 11th April, hmmmmm let me think another wheeze to limit the amount of cashback they can pay out, we've lost 2 weeks of spending already!

How does it show on your statement? It says 'your statement can get a little confusing, so to help clear the air - For every £1 spent within the first 3 months, your eligible spend will appear doubled on your statement'

So, on my first statement I spent £1010, it shows as 2020 in the moneyback eligible spend. How does that equate to 5%?

  • Sorry if this query has been raised before, but I have not found any mention so far and I would like to know if anyone else has had a similar problem and how they got round it. I have tried several times in the last week to apply on line for the Amex Platinum cash back card. On each occasion the Amex automated system has rejected my correct - yes, correct - postal address. It has also rejected my correct - yes, again correct - bank account name as it appears on cheques, statement etc. The obvious next step is to email Amex but their system will only allow card account holders to register for sending emails. It won't allow NON-card holders to email them. The phone numbers given on the Amex website do not refer to any general enquiry purpose so you have to fight your way through the answering systems and hope to find someone somewhere to give an answer. Does anyone have any helpful suggestions?...apart from forgetting the whole idea.

I recently applied and the acknowledgement email has the following number for the new accounts dept: 0800 587 3724. I was rejected and appealed, and they were very helpful when I called them.

Thanks, Lawman. The number that you have given is not on the list of numbers I have found or tried so I will give it a go. Thanks again.:T

I hope someone can help here, I have received my first Amex statement and wish to pay it by cheque but the instructions for doing so only state:
cheque: please write your account number on the front of your cheque and send with the payment slip in the envelope provided, payable to:

AMERICAN EXPRESS SERVICES EUROPE LTD, Royal Avenue, Widnes, WA88 1AE

I'm sorry for being a bit slow here but does this mean that I write AMERICAN EXPRESS SERVICES EUROPE LTD and then my account number? Surely they need more than my account on it's own in the pay line

You can shorten American Express Services Europe Limited to AESEL. I have done this before and never had any problem.

Thanks skyrider007, I was a little confused as it's not that clear in the literature.

    Hi,

I will be making a purchase of just under £4,000 at the end of next month (a season ticket for my commute to London). I recently applied for an American Express platinum moneyback card, with the intention of earning 5% cashback on the purchase.

The card arrived today, and it has a credit limit of £3,000. I realise that I've been lucky compared to some of the other people on this thread, but what's the best strategy for getting the credit limit increased to £4,000? Should I call them before I activate the card, or should I activate the card and start using it? I have a reasonable income and a good credit history, but I have got quite a lot of unused available credit on other cards.

    Thanks,

    Rob

When I phoned once I had activated they said I had to wait 6 months, so I would phone before you activate.

However, I was misinformed twice by their customer service so I did manage to get my limit increased.
