I must say Amex are the most professional card company I have ever come across. They resolve everything really quickly as well.I thought I'd lost my Amex card on wednesday afternoon about 4pm I phoned them to report it and friday morning I received a new card!!!!...2 days ...fantastic service.
All the staff are very knowledgable as well. When I first got my card they had given me £4600 limit and a nice lady phoned me before it was activated to explain the cashback and asking whether I intended buying any big purchases etc..I told her I was going to pay my holiday off and she upped it to £5500 there and then and set up my DD for me and activated the card!!!!!...this was 3 months ago now and I intend to keep this card as I npay it off in full every month and earn quite a lot of cashback and also keep another emergency one for where Amex is not accepted but to be honest I have only had it refused at 3 places.

taxi73 I'm surprised you've only had it declined at three places; I'm finding acceptance a major issue with my AmEx Platinum. No probs with supermarkets/petrol stations (except the cheaper supermarkets/farmfoods/etc) but high st stores are a nightmare. Not only that but after 3 months its not even going to be the market leader any mroe.

I think I'll get a CapOne MasterCard after three months and leave my AmEx open until the cashback comes thru, then close the card.

I wonder if anyone can confirm the following.

A relative used his new Amex platinum card to buy a new Dell computer via quidco last month.

Quidco tracked and validated the transaction, but over a week later, Quidco suddenly declined cashback.

The only reason I can think of is perhaps it was because a cashback credit card was used and I guess the card company has to make money somehow, in this case, they had first rights to any cashback being offered by Dell.

Update (11 June 08): A ticket has been raised with Quidco to see if they can get an explanation from Dell. Quidco status changed from 'Tracked' -> 'Validated' -> 'Declined' to 'Pending' after ticket raised.

Update (1 Aug 08): Quidco status now changed from 'Pending' to 'Validated', which suggests it will now be paid.

How does it show on your statement? It says 'your statement can get a little confusing, so to help clear the air - For every £1 spent within the first 3 months, your eligible spend will appear doubled on your statement'

So, on my first statement I spent £1010, it shows as 2020 in the moneyback eligible spend. How does that equate to 5%?

    Can anyone answer this?

    Quidco suddenly declined cashback.

Quidco don't decline cashback, they can only pass on what the retailer does.
The retailer has decined not quidco.
The only reason I can think of is perhaps it was because a cashback credit card was used

    That's not logical.
    Amex cashback comes from AMEX.
Quidco cashback comes from the retailer.
The retailer would be unaffected by the use of a cashback card.
However AMEX fees are higher so it would cost them more because this card was used (not because it's cashback but because it's AMEX).
I guess the card company has to make money somehow, in this case, they had first rights to any cashback being offered by Dell.

    No.
Card companies do not get commission from retailers.
Card companies charge fees to retailers (adn AMEX is a lot higher than others hence it's not universally accepted) but any agents commission does not go to credit card companies.
The quidco commission is the "agents" commision that an insurance broker or travel agents would get. It doesn't go to card companys.

    I don't know why it's been declined.
Can you try to find out?
If the retailer declines it's not quidcos fault but you can ask them why.

I am on here as a result of my amex account actually.

I checked my statement online and found my 6k credit limit was reduced to £3700 because "they were concerned about balances on my other cards".

I found out that periodically they do a full credit search to see if you are still the person they thought you were and following some bad debt registered against me by First Direct (which should have been rempved now) I am in the poo with them.
I am very surprised they do this and quickly ran off to find my T&C's and sure enough it says they will constantly monitor the creedit ref agencies and perform credit scoring.
They have not written to me (they said it was in the post) and having called them and asked them why they were spying on me in this way I said I would clear my balance and give them the card back.

IMHO this is awful customer service - so Amex you may not want certain types of customers but this one is off as soon as the payment clears - wont ever use them again...

Hmmm...I got the letter yesterday to say credit limit cut to £800....No-use to me as I require the peace of mind that if an emergency crops up I can cover it, flights home at short notice for example! Anyway they offered to lift it a small amount but still useless so I cancelled the card and told them that I thought they wanted rid of me because I always clear the monthly account and they therefore make no money from me. They assured me it was following a credit review. What b*ll*cks, they sent me the invite to have a charge card today with no credit limit and a £300 application fee!!!!
Might just give them a ring to make some-ones day a little more stressful!

    It's a MAXIMUM of 56 days.
If for example you get your statement on the 10th and buy something on 11th you would get the full allowance. However if you buy something on the 9th (almost a month later) then you will NOT get 56 days. More like 26, so it depends on when you buy something. Purchases at the beginning of a statement get closer to 56 days.

Look at your statement (or look on-line).
It sounds like you have missed a payment date and are accruing interest.
Note that the £64 interest will only go up to certain date, so there will be more.
