I closed and AMEX card just under a year ago and would now like to apply for the Platinum moneyback card.
Does anyone know if there is a requirement to wait a year to be a "new" customer?

I've had the Amex Cashback card for 4 months. Now that the 3 months of 5% cashback are over, I no longer need the card.

Does anyone know if I cancel it, will they give me the cashback I'm owed? Or do I have to keep the card for the full year to get the money?

You need to keep the card for a full 12 months as it's paid in the 13th month or so CS told me.

Hi all, hope this is the right place to post this...

If you have recently got an amex card for the 5% cashback, you'll be interested to know, and saved a stressful moment to know that when Amex take the money from your current account, they call themselves 'AESEL RECEIVABLES'. So don't panic if you see this, it's Amex.

Hope that spares somemeone some stress!

it states a charge for "goods and services"

Where does it say this? on line?, in your literature?
Can you type in exactly what it says.

Usually there is no charge for goods and services in £ provided they are paid off by the due date.
Goods are things like food, petrol etc.
Services are things like a garage bill.

If you can tell us the exact wording and where it appears then we should be able to help.

Normally I'd read the whole thread, but it's over 600 replies and I have other stuff I'd like to do today!

I've recently applied and been rejected for an Amex Platinum Cashback card, and am currently trying to figure out why. I fit the requirements they listed on their website when I checked those, and have an Equifax credit score of 494 out of their possible 500, so I'm somewhat worried that there's a black mark somewhere on my credit history that's stopping me from getting this card.

Can anyone with any knowledge of this reassure me that there's no problem with me, and that they're not giving me 5% cashback because of some other obscure reason?

For that matter, can anyone recommend any line of reasoning I might actually be able to use on their appeals department, or is this a lost cause?
