When was the last time you called them and what card do you hold with them? My calls are always routed to India, so I'd be interested to know how you got Brighton.
Suspect holding the Platinum Charge and Platinum Credit Card make some difference in their call routing; another factor might be that I'm a long standing cardholder (10yrs). In my experience at least, the latter does seem to matter because it does get an unprompted mention, on occasion, by customer services.
Phoned them yesterday and at a general frequency of around once a month. Invariably get connected for both cards to the UK based customer services.0 -
Customer service calls - well, mine get routed to India or even Germany but never to Brighton0

So if youre new they dont give a crap about ya and send your issue to India.0

Got my first statement that had no reference to the 5% cashback offer so I gave them a bell. The offer was not recorded against my account like others posting on this thread.
The offer is still there on the Amex Platignum Moneyback card application page!
A formal query has been submitted to resolve the issue...
...so if you have applied, a quick call to Amex is required rather than trying to sort it out a year later.

But when I got to be twenty one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years.”

I always go through to Brighton when I call, very helpful indeed. Maybe it's time of day, e.g. Brighton are UK office hours? Don't know.0

I've just tried to use AMEX to pay an insurance premium on rented property and they wouldn't accept it.
It also wouldn't be accepted on an online store.
I want to spend £4k on normal items to get my £200 cashback with the 5% offer in the first 3 months.
Other than that big spend (£800 odd) the only other spends are supermarkets, fuel and other incidentals. Though I do put some business purchases through my ccsBehind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -
I need to claim for a refund due to MAXjet going bust. I bought our tickets sometime at the beginning 3 months of 2007, but I can't be exact. I have not kept my statements, and the Amex site only shows the last 6 months. I called customer services and was told that they can't pull up information any earlier than 6 months, so I will have to pay for copy statements to find the transaction so that they can deal with it. any advice would be helpfulThe common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0

Not sure if it would help, but we did receive a confirmation email from Maxjet on the day we purchased our tickets which showed the total amount paid and the last 4 digits of our CC number...it came from no-reply@maxjet.com if that helps at all.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
What happens if you cancel your card/close the account and have to refund an item or what safeguards/guarantees would you have on large items purchased on card that become faulty?
Most stores only refund on the cards you used for the purchase. Will Amex still honour purchases made on the card after you've cancelled it?
I called Amex saying I wanted to cancel my Nectar Amex. They transferred me to their "customer Satisfaction" dept, who tried to persuade me to say and offered me the 5% cash back for 3 months followed by 1.5% (no mention of it being tiered). They also said I'd have to apply for it like a new customer and the offer was open for anyone to apply, and that they've got a major drive on at moment with more depertment stores accepting their card.

Just received my statement today (24 Jan) and it is dated 5 Jan 08. Payment date is 30 Jan and it says you need to give 7 days for a payment to clear
I paid over the phone and will set up a DD to pay it off each month. Once the 5% cash back is paid it's going in the bin.
