My black card really is no different to the plat card I had.
This might interest some of you...the VP of preferred customer accounds rang me the other day and asked if i'd be interested in a new WHITE card they're trialing. Not sure if it's like an even higher card than the black, but I said sure.
Thanks Toff. So basically, if you spend a lot on the Platinum Charge you get it for free? Did they give that to you automatically or did you have to haggle? Sounds good either way.
Did you ever make use of all the perks and benefits they came with (Platinum and Centurion/black card?).
Blimey, just re-read your post. How on earth can you spend >$1m on a card in a year?0 -

They've always sent our statements from the US. IN fact, the T&C for AmEX (UK) cards state that you agree to them processing your data and card usage information abroad, i.e. in the US.
I wonder if this concerns the EU in the same way that passenger data from EU-based airlines travelling to the US does?

I've never had to haggle with any of my credit providers.
I don't really use the so called perks that come with amex cards, as I have a secretary who runs my life.
Remember that I have an unlimited credit limit on my black card, so I use it for business. I could easily spend 100s of millions of dollars a year if i used it for business all the time.0 -

Ouch! Seems like an expensive way to have a [credit] card then. Doesn't the huge annual fee deter you in any way? Still, you must get loads back with the rewards points.
Do you really get free upgrades for flights, hotels and car hire, etc?
Also, what do you do if you where you want/need to spend don't accept Amex? Surely that must affect your purchases on that card to some extent.0 -

i just recieved the amex ba card, first cc i have had. i know if you spend over 20k in a year you get a free flight for a companion aswell as saving up the ba miles. only got it for my job as self employed but the benefits are great, i think so anyway.
It all good but the only prob you will have is that Amex is accepected every where.
I am sick of being told " sorry we dont take Amex".
I would suggest you also get a visa/mastercard.0 -

There is a long, long, long post showing where Amex is and isn't accepted.
Also on the Amex site they have a list of retailers that accept it.
What you will find is most large retailers will accept it, while some of the smaller places will not."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -

I've had an Amex card for about fifteen years and I can only think of two or three times when a store wouldn't take it. Most would rather have your money than not have your money.
That said, I use my Visa card for online purchases because it has a deliberately low credit limit.0 -

I'm not going to go into it any more, because my business is private, and i don't wish to discuss it on a public forum, but American Express look after me very well indeed.0 -
Hi Brokenwingshave just received a new ba amex with a limit of £9100
but
they wont approve a balance transfer from a tesco mastercard of £7000
any clues as to why? they did say they wil write with the details - it just puzzles me that theyll let me spend £9000 but a £7000 transfer is a no go [UNQUOTE]
The reason for this is that they are basically conning people with LOB of 4.9% and not giving it to them. A lot of people like myself, only got the card for the LOB incentive, I basically transfered £7,000 onto the card at the beginning of the year but I do not spend on it, just using it to pay off my debts at a low interest rate, (can't be bothered with tarting!!). So now you will see a lot of people like yourself complaining that the card is no good for the purposed for which they've applied. I think Trading Standards should look into this!!
Can you remember, did AMEX question you on how you would use the card, ie spending habits? if they feel that you are using the card only for balance transfers, There is no way they will authorise this.Debt Free!!!0 -
EEEEEEEK !
I am beginning to wonder if my monthly payments are going to American Express or if they are going to a curry house in Bombay.
Paper statements stopped ages ago, new credit cards cards are undelivered, letters unanswered, phonecalls unresolved and no email address available.
I have conflicting info - 'your acount was closed three years ago and that is why you cannot access your internet account' - ummmm then where is my monthly £120 going and why do i still have a balance ?
Weird - has anyone else had this lack of information?
Any advice on what to do as it doesn't seem to work contacting AMEX
