Hi all,
My first post here...
Does anyone on this forum know if it's possible to clear a Flexselect balance on an Amex green charge card with a balance transfer to another card?
I want to take advantage of a life-of-balance transfer rate. (If not I'll have to do the Egg money thing as an intermediary....)

I don't know if it's just me being clumsy but my non chip Amex platinum has now gone a bit curvy into a slight C shape, the card was always a bit thinner than the other ones, but is this a case of my flexible friend getting a little too flexible. Might have to get a chip and pin one soon.
I've no complaints about Amex.. you feel a bit special and you do sometimes get people giving you a wee look as if you're the only Amex user they've seen all day. I do wish it was accepted in just a few more places though.0 -
I've always had great experiences dealing with American Express customer services in America: they'd do pretty much anything to help out.
British customer services on the other hand....
A few years ago I was abroad for a few months, so I sent Amex a change of address to send letters and statements to my parents, I sent them direct debit forms to pay off the card automatically, and gave my parents power of attorney over my bank account in case they had to pay any cheques. Total overkill, I thought, even a credit card company couldn't screw that up.
Three months later in Hawaii my card stopped working. Turned out they'd set up the direct debit, but not bothered to use it. They'd sent threatening letters to my old address -- now an empty house -- for three months, and then cancelled the card.
Even the receptionist at the place where I was staying, who'd worked in the UK Amex office, said they were a bunch of idiots. Cost me over $100 in phone calls from payphones to Amex in the UK (which mostly consisted of them threatening me, when they were the ones who'd screwed up) before they sorted it out, and that only happened after my father pointed out that he had the paperwork from the bank proving that they'd set up the direct debit.
The most annoying thing was, I went to the local Amex office in Hawaii, gave them a cheque, and they told me if it was an American card they'd have reinstated it immediately. But no, not with a UK card. Eventually the UK office sent me a new one, though not until they'd screwed up again and lost the first one they tried to send me, and even then they still messed up my credit rating for a few years: not that I cared much as I don't borrow money unless I have to.
I've noticed that my platinum card statements seem to be posted from America these days: maybe Amex realised what a hopeless lack of service we were getting here?0 -
The fee for the charge card is a whopping £275!!!!!
While the fee is extortionate, it does include travel insurance and other goodies: so if you travel a lot it's probably worth the cost.
One day I really should figure out what to do with the tens of thousands of reward points I've accumulated...0 -

hi
i just recieved the amex ba card, first cc i have had. i know if you spend over 20k in a year you get a free flight for a companion aswell as saving up the ba miles. only got it for my job as self employed but the benefits are great, i think so anyway.Kim0 -
I have just received a new ba amex with a limit of £9100
but
they wont approve a balance transfer from a tesco mastercard of £7000
any clues as to why? they did say they wil write with the details - it just puzzles me that theyll let me spend £9000 but a £7000 transfer is a no go.0 -

There aren't really any downsides to it. If you can't afford to pay the annual fee, then they wouldn't invite you to the card. I can ring them up and they sort things out for me, like my hotels when I travel.
It's swell.
Toff (or anyone else!), what's the difference between Platinum charge card and Centurion? Do you still use one of the two?0 -
hi whenever i order a delivery from pizza hut they say on the leaflet they accept amex.
however whenever i try it gets declined??? could this have anything to do with the credit card number shorter than the other cards???

When I had the Platinum charge card, they never charged me a fee because i was spending in excess of a million dollars a year on it.
My black card really is no different to the plat card I had.
This might interest some of you...the VP of preferred customer accounds rang me the other day and asked if i'd be interested in a new WHITE card they're trialing. Not sure if it's like an even higher card than the black, but I said sure.0
