    There you go. I can't add anything further except I have spent a long time on the phone to Amex clarifying the terms as we discussed this in this forum 6months ago and they have told me the above is correct so I am going with it .

    I'm not denying the info you've been given, but I do reckon they are wrong, going by their own T's & C's:

    17.1 An annual rebate on the aggregate amount of all Transactions (other than Cash Withdrawals) will be payable to you by us at the following tiers and rates:

    17.1.1 0.5% for aggregate amounts up to £3,000 and

    17.1.2 1% for aggregate amounts from £3,001 to £7,500 and

    17.1.3 2% for aggregate amounts in excess of £7,501

    If it didn't have an 'and' and perhaps had an 'or' after point 17.1.2 then I would believe the info they gave you to be correct.

    Surely someone on here has had a Platinum Card for more than 12 months AND spent more than 7.5K?!
    then we could have some actual experience of what you get - I thikn that's the only way to know for sure.

    If it were as AMEX has told you, then by my rough calculations the BLUE card would reap better rewards up to approximately £14500 - at a guess not that many people would spend that much.

    Hi,

    I've had an Amex platinum card for about 18months - can't remember the exact amounts, but it was around 120quid cashback for about 10K spend (it was 6 months ago !) so the figures :-

    0.5% for 1st 3000 = £15 (+)
    1.0% between 3001 and 4500 = £45 (+)
    2.0% for amounts over 7.5K

    Are correct.

    I apologise if this has been covered already but I don't really have time to go through 40 pages of chat!

    I have recently received my Amercan Express platinum credit card and when I registered and logged onto the Amercian Express site I noticed that it talks about a membership reward programme. It mentions this is not available for some cards, and also that there is an annual fee but then at the bottom of the page it says it is complimentary for Platinum card holders. I didn't follow through until checking it out here first.

    Can we get this as well as the cashback?

    The American Express Platinum credit card is "just" cashback and not rewards. The rewards on offer actually aren't that great if you look through them.

    The membership rewards is available for the AMEX platinum Charge Card not the credit card which has cashback instead. The fee for the charge card is a whopping £275!!!!!

    Not had it long but I'm already fed up with the customer service. I set up a direct debit to pay the full amount each month. Last month however I cleared my balance by doing a balance transfer to my Egg card (for the 0% anniversary offer). I therefore assumed (and in past experience this has been the case with my other cards) that Amex's computer system would register the payment and not take a further payment of the statement balance. However I was mistaken, so there goes another £1500 out of my current account 2 weeks after I'd cleared the balance! :mad:

    Anyway - this in itself isn't the reason why I'm cancelling. This is down to the pathetic excuse for customer service I've had from their off shore call center since then. This can be summarised as follows:

    1. Phoned them on Tuesday to sort it out. They insisted I send them a fax to prove the payment but promised I would get my money back by the end of the week. So I dutifully send it.

    2. I later phoned them to confirm receipt of the fax to be told 'I can't confirm that as that's the admin dept'. I'm again assured I'd get my money back by the end of the week.

    3. The end of the week arrived - no refund in my current account!

    4. Phoned them today. They were very apologetic and said they would action the refund straight away. They had no receipt of the fax but this apparantly was no longer a problem. The final comment - 'the money should be back in your account in another 7-10 working days'.

    So I've got to wait another 2 weeks for my money to be returned! If I'd missed a payment they'd charge me a fee and demand payment ASAP but when they make a mistake they're happy to let it ride for a few weeks. I'm lucky because I have savings to bolster my current account otherwise Amex could have left me high and dry with no money to pay bills.

  • I'm also waving goodbye to Amex. Second time I've taken out a credit card with them thinking I would be getting life of balance 4.9% - first time I received 0% 6 months second time they confirmed I would get the 4.9%, so I transferred a balance - then, when I received my statement they'd changed the interest to 7.9%. How does that work then. Does the 4.9% rate exist? Has anybody actually received that rate? I have complained on several occasions to no avail. Do I have any comeback?
