Hello folks. I used my Amex Blue as main cashback card before i got hold of my Egg money last february which is now our main cashback card. I don't have any balance on it. Our total spending on credit cards last year is about £15K. I am tempted to apply for their Amex platinum but I just read recently that they are now charging annual fee of £15. Is worth getting one or should I close my blue card? Any advise and opinions welcome. Many thanks.0

Are you sure that's right?American_Express_website wrote:4. Charges:
a) No annual fee will be charged to your account as long as your spend reaches at least £500 in the 12 months preceding your card anniversary date. If you spend less than £500 on your card, an Account servicing charge of £15 will be applied.

I have read it over TMF CC boards that is why I don't know if its still worth getting the Platinum card.0

Could you please post a link? This is getting me a little concerned. Are we talking about a flat-fee of £15 annual charge no matter what your level of use? If this is indeed true, or about to happen, I'll be going back to the Blue card.0 -
Eagle TMF may have got it wrong or some typograghical error perhaps. I have just visited Amex platinum website and they still don't charge annual fees. In fact I've just applied awaiting now for the results.

Second time I've taken out a credit card with them thinking I would be getting life of balance 4.9% - first time I received 0% 6 months second time they confirmed I would get the 4.9%, so I transferred a balance - then, when I received my statement they'd changed the interest to 7.9%. How does that work then. Does the 4.9% rate exist? Has anybody actually received that rate? I have complained on several occasions to no avail. Do I have any comeback?
i applied for and got the amex platinum with life of balance 4.9% about a month ago. i applied online in the evening. the next morning the offer had gone. I rang amex and they confirmed my app at 4.9% lob. it seems i just made it. i did a 5k balance transfer to reduce the cost of my eggloan (@6.7%).
on activating the card i asked them to confirm the terms and they again said 4.9% lob. it also said it on the back of the letter the card was attached to!
so i will be watching this like a hawk. i am looking to pay it off asap anyway but if they try getting smart i guess i will just have to move it to a 0% card. now wishing i did that in the first place!money never sleeps!0 -

American Express card holders: Beware that pop-up log-in screen, even on the company's secure Web site. The credit card and travel services company has issued a warning about what it calls a false "security measures" pop-up screen that appears when users log in to its secure site....
Phishers and identity thieves thrive on tricking users into visiting fake, look-alike Web sites, but the latest discovery shows just how sophisticated the threat has become, said Roger Thompson, chief technology officer at Exploit Prevention Labs, a security research company in Atlanta.

The T&C's cleary state 4.9% LOB if transferred in the first 6 months on the blue amex and no annual fee, i reckon its a top deal unless you're prepared to take the chance tarting.0
