Chicken Kiev, make a garli butter up 3 cloves of garlic, bit of parsley, butter, mix up, whack a couple of chicken breasts till they are flat, put garlic butter in the middle, fold together, dip in a bit of egg, then the breadcrumbs, fry gently until thoroughly cooked, or you could bake in the oven.

I use mine for:
Beefburgers and meatballs
treacle tart
mix with grated cheese and put on top of pasta & suace, grill for yummy cruncy topping
Use for chicken kievs - slit chicken breasts like pitta breads, wallop with rolling pin to flatten, fill with feta/bacon&cheese/soft cheese& Garlic etc. Put breast together again, dip in beaten egg then into breadcrumbs. Bake in oven till cooked through. Yummy, esp with breadcrumbs made from cheesy garlic bread.0 -
Definitely treacle tart - breadcrumbs,golden syrup,pinch of ginger/lemon juice in a pastry case.Yum yum.
Bear in mind that there's no need to use them up quickly - they'll keep for ages in the freezer.0 -
There are some great puddings using bread crumbs - fry them with butter sugar and cinnamon, then layer this between layers of pureed apple. serve cold with cream.
There's another version very similar, where you make the same crumb stuff then line the inside of a pudding basin with it, then fill with stewed apples/pears and top it with more crumbs, I think after that you bake it and serve hot.
Both these ideas are from Rose Elliot's "Cheap and Easy" cookbook, which I've had for ages and love. I think there's a section for savory dishes using bread crumbs too, but it's the puddings that I remember off the top of my head,I can look up more savory recipes later, if you want.

I've got a lot of stale (ie rock hard) crusts from H/M bread and was wondering whether I should blitz them into breadcrumbs? If I do, any extra idea as to what I can then use them for? I thought perhaps in meatballs?
There's probably the odd seed in them too as I always add sunflower/linseed.
Any advice/ideas please?

you coul mix the crumbs with grated cheese for a topping on cauliflower cheese or pasta dishes etc
i am sure i read somewhere you could fry them in butter not sure if you add sugar and layer it with stewed fruit, but that could be all in my mind..lol0 -
Mmmm, that does sound nice (on cauli cheese). I've got a bread and butter pud in the oven - could you give me an idea as to how long I should cook it for please? It's on about 150, and covered in foil for now in the hope of encouraging it all to moisten.January '06 Grocery Challenge (4th - 31st) £320.Week 1 - £73.99 Week 2 £5.10 (so far

the wri book says a moderate oven till its risen and set, the other book says 180o centre of oven for 30 mins but someone else might know better, long time since i made one, did you leave it to soak about 1/2 hr before cooking?0

You can use breadcrumbs when you make homemade burgers, it helps bind them together - I make pork and garlic burgers - minced up pork, garlic, herbs, bit of tomato paste, finely diced onion and some breadcrumbs - serve with a garlic mayo - makes your breath stink but tastes lush.My sig's too large, apparently - so apologies to whoever's space I was taking up.:lipsrseal0

Just pulled it out and added more egg, milk etc. Going to be a really rich pud!
Breadcrumbs llok good and those burgers sound lush. Mine have always fallen apart in the past - perhaps not adding breadcrumbs was my mistake?January '06 Grocery Challenge (4th - 31st) £320.Week 1 - £73.99 Week 2 £5.10 (so far)
