your pudding will be fine kaz, the recipe says to 4 slices bread you need3/4 pt warmed milk stirred into 2 whisked eggs, pour over and stand 1/2 hr you need to add 2tbsps sugar and 2tbsps sultanas as well

Could be - also ages ago I bought a little burger maker thing from Lakeland, it's just a little gadget that you shove the mixture in the top, put the lid on and press it down and it makes it into a burger shape and seems to hold it all together nicely. Also I find using fresh mince as opposed to frozen is better, using thawed out frozen makes the meat quite watery, which doesn't help the mixture hold together.

Try the pork burgers, they are indeed lush! Plenty plenty of garlic mayo:D Or I guess you could use apple sauce instead if you're not keen on garlic, or you're planning on snogging someone after eating them.
My sig's too large, apparently - so apologies to whoever's space I was taking up.:lipsrseal
  • If ever I have any breadcrumbs from stale bread I mix them with salt, pepper and grated parmesan cheese and use it to coat chicken pieces. Someone told me about this years ago and said it was called Chicken Romanoff - don't know if it is but it tastes Great!! You dip the chicken pieces in egg and or milk before putting in the breadcrumb mixture and cook it in a moderate oven.

Yeap I agree with recovering spendaholic, I do practically the same but with
pork or lamb chops, I put the flour and seasoning into an old bread bag or something like that. pop the chops into the bag give it a good shake, this way you save getting your hands all gooey, then coat the chops in beaten egg also in another bag, then coat the eggy chop in breadcrumbs. I do this for fried liver as well. This is probably not as interesting an answer as the others that you have got, but had to get it off my chest. :o

  • This is my first post but I have been lurking for a while and have picked up some really helpful tips - thank you!

I have bought a slowcooker and have tried some of the recipes on here, I am a convert to Stardrops, Zoflora, microfibre cloths, washing soda and white vinegar (only when I had used up my existing cleaning products of course!)

In true OS style I have been whizzing down my bread crusts into breadcrumbs and freezing them. I now have a boxful in the freezer and so far have only used them mixed with grated cheese as a topping (macaroni cheese etc).
Does anyone have any ideas of using them, perhaps bulking out other ingredients etc?

Also,my "Thanks" button vanished a few weeks ago and I feel very rude reading peoples posts and not thanking them. How do I get it back?!

You can't thank your own posts, so you don't have a thank button - you can only see other peoples!

I'd love to know too as I have just thrown out our bread for the birds and thought I should have made at least half of it into breadcrumbs to freeze.

What about making fishcakes and coating them with the breadcrumbs? Also, what about coating pieces of fish (salmon, cod etc) with a mixture of your breadcrumbs with some herbs / spices / lemon rind etc?
  • Hello bizzylizzy
If you go to the mega index sticky thread here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=235198 and scroll down to cooking and recipes, click on it and you will see there about 8 threads devoted to breadcrumbs - you wouldn't think it was possible would you ? :rotfl: only on OS :D

I bung all my breadcrumbs in a bag and shove in the freezer for when a recipe calls for them. I also cut crusts into cubes and freeze for croutons.

Hooray, they are back!! ( I wasn't trying to thank myself, all the buttons on everyones posts were missing. I had them for a while and then they just vanished. One of those mysteries that happen with computers I expect!)

Ah - you said 'my' thanks button dissapeared, so I thought you literally meant
    your own button...

Were you looking at a locked thread perhaps?
