This looks like a toughie. So far the only possible leads I've found are unlikely and outside the uk.
Three Spurs - the biblical Mount Hermon has 3 spurs and comes up a lot in Google searches. Being outside the uk obviously it's not exactly that mountain, but it's lent it's name to street names and churches in the uk
I'm looking at Scottish mountains with 3 spurs as well. Sort of hoping it is in Scotland, might give me a bit of an advantage!
Will you peel back the battery of shape - I think it's coincidence and it doesn't really fit with the way the clue is worded but William Peel VC was Captain of HMS Diamond during the Napoleonic wars which established the Diamond Battery at Sebastopol (source)0 -
going on the fire hydrant theory the first fire hydrant in New York City was installed in 1817 by George Smith, who was a fireman. He wisely located it in front of his own house on Frankfort Street. fort? battery
dont think this helps muchThank you to all the posters and the forum guides for all your hard work it is appreciated ...
Jan starting off as the year will pan out ...nothing lol0 -

OK Guys - spoiler doesn't seem to be working for me, what am I missing?
update, sorry it is working, just the puter being difficult!0 -

All the answers are in the UK, good thinking though:D0 -
some more thoughtsa master at work - the head of a masonic lodge is called the Grand Master - who back in the day would have been a master stonemason0

Hmmm, I was thinking...."Where sails turn" was referring to a windmill0 -
okies well i think I am as stumped as everyone else right now, not using spoilers in this post because I don't think I'm giving any answers but these are the few thoughts I've had so far...
1 A HOLY MAN TROD FROST IN HERE NO MISTAKE.
unless there is some sort of anagram in here or something else I've missed (which is very likely) the first thing that sprang to mind when I read this clue was Good King Wenceslas
2 THE FIRST TIME SAW H FOR HOME HERE IN THE GROUND.
My thought for this was maybe a Heli-pad or heli port of some sort - maybe the first operational one in uk - needs more research.
3 Given the construction of the answer (6 then 5 letters), I am highly inclined to agree that Lodge could well be the second word as originally suggested by thingamebob. In dreams there are no impossibilities0 -
I think that we need to work out the first line first, before we go any further and I've got an idea for part of the first line. Still trying to work out the rest of the first line and then I'll post what I think. Does anyone think that it is really worth using spoilers. I think that it is likely to be the same MSER's that keep coming back to this thread and I think that it is unlikely that any of us don't read what is in the spoiler.
Before I post my idea, does anyone want to keep on using spoilers so that they can work it out for themselves?0 -

Is it a sign or just coincidence that as I type this there is a program on about the Lake District?...

In that vein, what about the Royal Naval Reserve Battery at Peel Bay - Isle of ManLiterally seconds after typing that link, I realised that the symbol of the IoM is the Triskellion - Three legs, each in a suit of armour, each with a spur...

If we are indeed looking at peel bay, we just need to figure out the shape bit.Not as green as I am cabbage looking0 -

I come back to the thread to see if anyone has any inspiration, and perhaps that will help me, so I always read the spoilers. So Marg28, as far as I'm concerned normal post is fine.0
