I would never have gotten to Bishop's Stortford from the 'trod frost' (I was using an anagram solver which wasn't picking anything up as it wasn't using place names!) and I hadn't noticed 'The Half Moon's' other colourful names!!
Was wondering for the next bit, could AND WITH LEY YOU WILL SEE mean 'Cley'I know it says 'see' and not 'c' but I'm stumped with any other suggestions!
http://www.cleywindmill.co.uk/ ???????????????? EEEEEEEEE that could fit?!?!?! I have no idea how you would go from one to the other from the clues, but it fits!?0 -
clicky
There's a place called Whitley Green
its got a pub called the Windmill http://www.thewindmill.info/home.php and it has nibbles! http://www.thewindmill.info/windmill_content/uploadedmenus/wmjul10d2.pdf0 -
whiteley can be an anagram of with ley in itself, it seems too obvious, there would have been no point to the first half of the clue.
There is however a Windmill Restaurant (to pick up on someone's suggestion earlier that that's what turning sails refers to) in Whiteley Green, Macclesfield http://www.thewindmill.info/home.php it would also fit with nibble
oops itsinthemail beat me to it0 -
So it's either the Windmil, Whiteley Green or Cley Windmill - certainly sorts out the turning sails. Now, nibble on 3?Not as green as I am cabbage looking0

I don't think so I'm afraid. It doesn't relate to the pub or the colours and it would make the first half of the clue pointless0 -
On the Windmill menu they have a trio of Goosnargh duck - Goosnargh is a village near Preston0

I know what you mean, I'm desperately trying to find a way to fit it in with the rest of the clue, or find out what 'NIBBLE ON 3' means!
It could be Whiteley Green but I'm not sure what the 'YOU WILL SEE' means? Unless it's just a throwaway part of the clue, or I'm missing something! (possible!!!)
Edit: Found a very dubious link maybe?
From hereSt. Margaret, Cley-next-the-Sea.
Bearded Green Man in the choir stalls. There is a second Green Man bench end also in the choir stalls.0 -

That'll do me - pity it's A La Carte and not a nibble, but being the 3rd item is good enough. Not as green as I am cabbage looking0
