Bramble, are the coffee buns buns to go with coffee or coffee flavoured buns? If it's the latter could I have the recipe pretty please? :)

    Chicken and Pasta Bake?

Make an onion sauce - Chop onions and put in micro with a little melted butter/marg
    cook until soft.
add a little milk and some flour, mix well and add a little more milk, maybe a little more flour.
make upto a pint with more milk and heat through, stirring every so often.
You can also add some chopped mushrooms and onions if you have them or/and a tin of tomatoes
    salt, pepper and mixed herbs

Add to cooked pasta in a casserole dish and the chopped chicken and maybe some sweetcorn

cook through in the oven until bubbling.

You could also top with grated cheese and/or breadcrumbs or a packet of crisps that you have bashed with a rolling pin to make into crumbs.

Basically you just make it up as you go along. Hope you get the idea.

they are like cake/bun type things my grandad used to bake, the've got currants in them, and are hard cake type consistencey, sounds hard to explain! i've never actually had them with coffee, but i guess that is where the name comes from!

    Hi Bramble

I did this tonight from Weezl's chrimbo planner, you could use your chicken instead of the pork. The cider is Asda's Oakstone, £1.32 for 2 litres.

    I quote

    Pork in Cider Sauce
there was going to be a dish Pork in Cider Sauce in the chrimbo meal planner, but it was changed to be Pork in Tortillas

however, I decided that we were going to have the cider sauce one for dinner tonight. It was totally scrummy, and I will def be doing again

For the 2 of us, I used 80g onion, sauted in 10ml oil, add 20g flour and stir about a bit. Add 200ml cider and mix until thickened, stir in half tsp grainy mustard and s+p. Add 160g of the slow roasted pork

Served with 200g mash each, 80g cabbage, 80g carrots each

The pork could easily be reduced to 60g without noticing much

I was going to add a little splash of cream to mine (OH doesn't like it), but it was so scrummy without that I didn't bother.

On my planner, this costs out to 44p each. The official planner is prob a little cheaper

that sounds like a lovely dish!! will definately make note of that one. Chicken and cider go together then?

Pasta bake is a good idea too. i figure if we just have the breast for sunday that leaves alooot of chicken to make into other meals!

    Chicken and mushroom risotto?

2 chicken stock cubes dissolved in 1 1/2 pints of boiling water and a cup and a half of rice. Add onions and mushrooms( I use frozen) season, add a sprinkling of garlic salt and boil together until rice is cooked and has absorbed all liquid. Either add chicken and continue to heat or serve on the side. We had this for tea tonight, yummy!

Just turn the chicken into stew. Lots of potatoes, carrots and onions boiled together with seasoning. When soft and liquid reduced add chicken, heat through thoroughly and then thicken up with bisto or flour and oxo. Delicious and very quick and easy.

Oh, right. Yup, he needs a kick up the bum. You're not doing anything daft like tell him what you're planning to make for meals are you? Just say you're not sure then stick it on a plate in front of him. It's easier to say "tough, that's it!" when they moan if it's already dinnertime and they're hungry!

As to him eating leftovers or giving them to the dog...well either freeze them straight away or put them in a plastic box labelled "Friday's Dinner" or somesuch. I really had to break my OH of grazing his way through the fridge and eating ingredients for planned meals. A combination of being firm, a few meals turning up lacking something crucial (the macaroni cheese that had no cheese was particularly revolting) and making sure there were some snack foods availible at all times worked for me.

At no point would I be running out to the shops to buy unbudgeted for food just because he moaned. At the very least send him out and tell him to pay for it out his beer money or something! And remind him that it's not just a question of you trying to keep to a budget, you both have to.

I would have given him ONE chance...either eat it...or wear it as a hat.

My Dh is like a Dyason, hoovers up anything.

;) Felines are my favourite ;)

He usually hates spag bol and complains when i make that. So when he asked for it, i jumped at the chance (there are 2 left over portions in my freezer for my lunches next week) that was his chance, next time he has to have it for dinner! no choice!
