Downstairs hoovered and kitchen floor spot cleaned :D

So the whole house looks clean, but it's only superficial. Then again, I don't think there is any really scary dirt lurking anywhere, I just need to make sure I deep clean each room in turn over the next couple of months.

So... for my next challenge - do I go and sort out food, or clean myself up? Maybe I'll get supper half worked out, and then have a shower.... see you later :D

But surely she's been trained only to put up birds when told to? Or at 10 has she reached the stage where she knows better than you ;):p

That's the problem - she wants to chase them up all the time and no amount of "don't do that!" in a stern voice stops her. And at age 10 she certainly believes she knows better than me....

Soappie, 10 is only young - my springer is 15 (and a quarter, but who's counting?)!!

I know 10 is still young Pollyb - tell the insurers that! I've just cancelled my dog insurance policy that I've had for 10 years - the premium has doubled in the last 12 months £562 - my car is nearly as old and much cheaper to insure!!!!! I'm now scouting frantically around to a cheaper one.

Right, now I've managed to quickly catch up...

Greenbee - sort yourself out and then think of supper. A trick I was told many years ago, was to gently saute an onion in butter a few minutes before the OH gets home. It buys you time even if you don't use it later! They smell something delicious and then are put in a good mood giving you time to rustle up some lovely stuff and THEN a cold platter... ;):D

Huge hugs Boddy on your friend's loss, that must have been a shock...and it'll be horrible for your friend for a while as the relevant people sort what happened. But I know you can be strong for her..

Rach re: the old thread - now I know where you used to live! The Q Road thing is so sad I'm wanting to say something about "care in the community" but that's probably not the right thing to say at this time. But hey! 3.5 days to go - woo hoo! :D What length of maternity leave will you have?

Have felt marginally better today, though still have a sore throat and blocked nose. But, I've not had the aching of the last few days so I'm on the mend.

Spent the morning catching up on housework and paperwork - both of which have been dreadfully neglected the last couple of months whilst I've been so busy but I'm just about at the top of both of those mountains.

I've also picked up another proof reading (though really copy editing) job over the weekend which is good so I've spent a couple of hours this afternoon looking at that.

The chickens had their free range hour whilst I read through a bit. I'm off tomorrow (have holiday to use up by the end of September) but will be off out doing my other job.....

I think there's a time between about 4 and 6 when they've finally learnt to listen to you and haven't yet decided that they know better than you... it doesn't seem to last long though!

Thanks for the tip... I've done the messy prep so I can now safely get myself sorted out. OH has just texted so I've got about half an hour and should be able to appear relaxed and unhurried when he turns up (and might even manage to have the wine bottle open!). I've copied hex's idea of frittata given that I have lots of veggies and not much else (well, lots in the freezer, but I haven't exactly spent the day slaving over his birthday dinner :o).

Hope the portfolio approach to work is going well soappie, and keeping roof over your head and BB and the hens fed :D

Oh, BB and the hens get fed I'm on beans on toast most days, when I can afford the beans, otherwise it's toast. Or at least it was until the toaster broke. Now it's just bread and butter :p

Seriously, things are extremely tight and getting tighter by the month. A humungous tax bill last week (which has been paid) hasn't helped. But hey ho, I just need to remind myself I'm made of stern stuff and can work 24/7 to pay the bills....

Hope you find something that pays the bills a little more easily soappie

OK... I'm clean and dressed, so I reckon I've got about 10 minutes to make it look like I've had a relaxing few days doing nothing, and yet the house is still miraculously clean and tidy :p where did I put the trashy novels I spent Saturday and Sunday reading?

Have a good evening everyone ;)
