Greent - I made sausage casserole using your recipe except I didn't have any peppers or red wine but put in a bit of beef stock and mushrooms instead & it was nice. The only thing is the kids just eat he sausages and wouldn't eat the sauce which was annoying & Oh moaned that there wasn't enough sausage for his liking. I used 6 jumbo sausages from the Co Op which I thought would be fine for 2 adults, 1 teen & 1 11 yr old but obviously not. Still I will make it again so thanks.

What did you have with the sausage casserole? Mash and yorkshire puds soak up the sauce really well like a gravy.

  • Menu plan for this week is:

Sat: Fish (I am determined to get to fish mongers this week!)
Sun: Perhaps a chicken casserole, or bacon and cabbage
    Mon: Smoked fish pie
    Tues: Chorizo potato bake
    Wed: Pasta vongole
    Thurs: Burgers and oven chips
Fri: No idea yet, but takeaway previous 2 Fri’s so ought to cook at home – Perhaps nasi goring using rice I have frozen

To do this menu, I need fish (fresh and smoked), chicken (possibly thighs, or de-boned breasts) or bacon, burger buns, bread, milk, bananas, dunkers, mushrooms, toothbrush for DD, and I think that’s it! I might actually spend less than €40 this week!!

Oh, I do want to go to Lidl for small apple juice cartons, chorizo, bacon pieces (actually, need the chorizo to do the bake - but I have other stoprecupboard options if I don't get there) and perhaps some of the veg. That would be about another €6-9 spend.
    GC 2010 €6,000/ €5,897

  • went through a stack of last years essentials mags ripping out recipies before recycling them so ive tried a couple of new meals this week. one was raw sliced potato layered up with grated cheesse and sliced leek (should have been onin but i had leeks) then you heat stock and white wine cool and add cream and pour that over it all. (its in a heat proof dish thats been buttered) and bung in the oven fro 45 mins. me and DH really liked it kids all pulled faces and moved it round their plates.
Leeky mash has the same effect on them so i should take the hint they dont like leeks;)

^^ Does sound like a bit of a pants butcher. A proper, nice one, if you don't want what he's got laid out, should go out the back and get out a whole carcass, and chop off the bits you want!

Afternoon all :) Have an impromptu fortnight off because I am using all the TOIL I have built up in the last few weeks so hopefully no spending! £10 spend yesterday in Asda on cat food and the like. Will update it later.

Going to have chilli tonight (moving my meal plan around a bit) as I had to take something out of the freezer to fit in the ice cream I got myself LOL. Will make it with some lentils too to fill it out.

Have a good day all :)
