  • edit - I have a recipe for lovely banana flapjack that's great for using up bananas that are turning mushy and you can fling all sorts of nuts, seeds, fruit, whatever into it. I'll type it up tonight if anyone's interested :)

Yes please, I am making flapjacks and cereal bars tonight and was about to stick two bananas in the freezer. :D

Went shopping this morning and bought: Large joint of Topside £21.09, Fabric freshener 99p, bottle of Pepsi £1 and cakes (we have a visitor this afternoon) £3.94. Cakes and cola were not necessary. Kitchen is not up to my standard and I need to spend the weekend scrubbing it. As for cola can anybody give me advice about kicking the habit?
Total spend £27.02. Off to update signature.

Could you cut down? Start drinking more squash, water or herbal tea instead?
Or just stop buying it all together. It's your "inner chimp" that wants it, when you know it's impulsive and unnecessary. Sounds a bit crazy but you can talk yourself down and overcome the chimp in a lot of situations.

kittie, hi, I'd say a slow cooker is worth it, you may even be able to get a free one via freecycle. They use about 1.5p an hour electricity vs about 25 - 30p for an oven (according to my OWL) so you should get the cost back quite soon and it does encourage you to make more inexpensive meals with cheaper cuts as well as making stock from eg chicken bones which stretches out another meal. Plus it makes you feel all 'domestic goddessy' and like a proper housewife ;). Well, it works for me! Loads of recipes for sc on these forums too. Have fun!

  • Please can you put me down for £300 again.

I have an elderly cat who bless him is costing us a fortune at the vets at the moment so must try and save as many pennies as possible.

Small shop at Mr L to see us through to the weekend.

    Good luck everyone:)
