I've been laughing at that for a good few minutes now - it only takes a little thing to get me going!:rotfl:
Payday is tomorrow but since I've already declared August I'll add the spends of £3.51 for sugar, Lurpak, choccy bar and milk from the local Mr S. Updated signature.
Flatmate cooked dinner - Salmon with Parmesan crust with mash and green beans. Was nice, but we both agreed it was quite dry. He made too many breadcrumbs so now has a LOT of breadcrumbs mixed with parsley and parmesan. Apart from freezing, does anyone have any idea what can be done with these? Would rather not do the same recipe tbh...
I had a REALLY nice dinner last night, which gave me enough for lunches for today and tomorrow. I was only looking for a recipe to go with with a can of Cannellini beans which I was getting fed up of seeing looking at me in the cupboard. It was a sausage, bacon, and passata hot pot with the beans - kind of like posh baked beans with a smoky BBQ style taste.
It's from a recipe but I've made a few amendments:
BBQ Cannelini beans with sausages
Ingredients
Pack of 8 Sausages
6 rashers bacon (ideally smoked)
I can of Cannelini beans
500g Passata
1 Onion
1 tbsp paprika
1 tbsp brown sugar
Splash Lea and Perrins
Serve with chips, potatoes or rice
One deep, non stick pan for cooking the meal in.
1. Fry off the sausages for 10 mins until brown all over. Take off and transfer to another plate once done.
2. Chop up the onions and bacon then fry for 5 mins (or until browned), add the sausages after this, pour in the passata, cannelini beans, paprika, sugar and lea and perrins . Simmer for 10-15 mins.
3. Serve with chips, potatoes or rice, or if you want, in a bowl on it's own.
I had with chips tonight, and baked potato today. Both yummy, especially since I was wondering what the h*ll to do with these beans!

Sorry again to hear about your OH Spiggle.
The breadcrumbs, parsley, parmesan...mix with pork mince/beef mince, add some salt and pepper to taste, bind together with an egg and shaoe into meatballs and cook in a pasta sauce or fry them in a little oil in a frying pan.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

Hi Folks and welcome to the many newbies :hello:
Spent a fab day in the garden yesterday so I was quiet!
Went back to work this morning while OH went to work and see the doctor. Long story short I flew back from work to pick him up and take him to the hospital where they confirmed DVT. So warfarin for six months and the pleasure of injecting him over the next week or so. All in all a pretty sh***y day. Sorry that was uncalled for.
Don't know how things will pan out over this week but I'll try and stay in touch.
Keep up the fantastic work all,
Spigs
Hope your OH is ok and that things soon start picking up for you.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

Hi
Not done this for a while but freelance DH is coming to the end of a contract and we need to get a grip again! Please put us down for £300 for me, DH and two young children (3&1).
It is to include all meals in the home and my packed lunches so we will be taking a long hard look at our takeaway spend. I think I may invest in that Takeaway Secret book!0 -
Thanks wssla00 and katholicos! I think I'll have enough breadcrumbs for both of those recipes so I'll give them both a go this weekend - meal plan changed.
I just need to get some eggs and then do some sauce for the pasta.
Katholicos: what sauce do you think would go best with the meatballs and pasta in your opinion? A tomatoey passata style sauce, or a creamy cheesy style sauce (or maybe with olive oil/herbs or another type of sauce). Thanks again.:pGrocery Challenge Jan 24 0/300

NickJW, I';d agree, I was going to say put them onto some slices of raw chicken coated in mayo and grill for 15 mins, yum! You could add some grated parmesan too, and have it with mayo, or garlic mayo if you like it.
tessasmum, what do you give your older 'kids' now? I have one similar but eating anything 'homemade' is embarrassing, it seems...
thanks cw18 and wssla for your 'nitty gritty', it really helps a lot, mine isn't that organised yet but it's getting better...
Just went thro Aug spend to see what it all went on, and guess what? it went on loads of different things, nothing in particular, tho was surprised to see we spent as much on veg as on meat, and as much on fruit as on fish. now, off to cost out HM school meals...0 -

Well Ist September already and hopefully lots of savings this month I have a lot of birthdays on the horizon so the more I can stash the better. Hospital appointment this morning so a bottle of drink taken with me will save being tempted by the stuff in the cafe ,plus my book so I won't buy and magazines either.i know I will be hanging around for an hour or so at least so I shall put temptation out of my way.
Good luck everyone for this month

Good Morning!
I've only just found this and think it's a wonderful idea so please may I join in? I'm a SAHM now so we have to be so careful with money as from next month. At the moment I aim for fifty pounds a week for food for me, OH and the cat and dog, and use all my DD's child benefit to buy food, milk and nappies, so could you put me down for £280 as a guide for this month and then hopefully I can reduce it next month!
Also is it worth investing in a slow cooker? We love casseroles and stews etc and thinking its probably more cost effective than the oven.
Thanks for any advice and good luck!!0
