hi we had a similar issue about 2 years ago when i had severe post natal depression and there was 5 us of living in a very small 2 bedroomed flat(2 adults,3 children)...we were offered a 3 bedroomed house near my family 70 miles away, so my partner gave up his job to move here

we were put on an JSA sanction when we claimed as they said my partner had given up a decent job to be unemployed and the distance to work was still do-able by public transport(train then 2 buses+then the same back)..and then they said my partner could've looked for work before we moved (we did but had no idea when we would've been offered a house)..basically they tried to block us on everything but we backed up our story with doctors notes, health visitors letters and letters from the council stating why we had to move

we eventually won the appeal but it did take quite some time

I just wanted to update this and give the result. I sent off my letter and heard back that I have had the money reinstated. Not that it matters really as I now have a job! I included letters that I had sent to council members seeking help, diaries of everything going on and some other things so it did help in the end. Thanks everyone for your advice.

Just seen this thread, and would have advised you to appeal, glad you did and hope you find things better now. I've had neighbour troubles and just moved, selling at a loss to get away.

Despie what some people think, people in jobcentres are just ordinary people and can apprecaite what ordinary people sometimes have to put up with and how they are forced to deal with things.
The OP could have gone off sick, got benefits that way. They didn't, they dealt with their problems in a way that made them still capable of being available for work.

30 miles may not be much of a commute for some (I do 90 miles round trip) but it would cost £6 a day round trip in petrol alone if driven. Could many people in low paid work afford that from their wages on top of all the other costs that working does actually bring?
  • I wonder if Mary dot would dare to make the same remarks to Gary Newloves widow or to the widow of Philip Lawrence. Its very easy to hide behind a PC and be a nasty !!!!! but i bet she wouldnt dare to write a letter or e mail to a national newspaper containing the same comments cos then she would have to give a name!

I am so pleased that everything is starting to work out for honeyD. The very best of luck for the future! It is worth noting that the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) is also there to help people with similar problems. Plus, many, if not all, Councils also run their own advice services.
