I live in a bad area also, but i never speak to people around here so they know nothing about me or my way of life. People can do whatever they like or say whatever they like to each other. I dont go around telling people my business. I dont want to be a part of that!!!

If i see a gang of lads thats blocking my way, instead of walking around them I just walk through them and they have to move!!! If you show people your scared then yes they going to make a drama out it!!!

Nine times out of ten there like !!!!!! and just move out the way.

Maybe you are the kind of person who can do that, I however am not and not all people are able to do that. Good on you for being able to, and I hope nothing bad ever happens in that kind of situation.

OP I don't have any practical advice but to try an appeal. You do seem to have some special circumstances and the decision maker may well listen.

How time consuming would this be though? The poster doesn't handle stress well so why put extra stress for the sake of £35 pw?
Actively looking for work would be more productive.

been there lived in a horrid area i was lucky i got moved of the council after a hell of a lot of nagging from me and my docs i feel for you belive me

i do no there is i think hardship money might not be correct name for it mind which is like reduced jsa as you have been sanctioned its about half what you would normally recive , you might want to ring job centre in morning and ask about this iam not 100% sure you will get this mind will look on net see if i can find info for you x

    http://www.advicekit.info/advicekit/Benefits/A_to_Z_of_benefits_and_tax_credits/Jobseekers_Allowance/Hardship_Payments/Default.aspx

i no i will get called worse than muck for this but i wouldnt say this normally unless i thought you were 100% genuine in wanting to work ,

but you could claim esa for your depression you will need sick notes of your doc but you have just lost close family and time to get yourself thought that and any other matters that need sorting out its less stressful for you and atm might be better for your health, hopefully you will get work in the 12 weeks you have before a medical , even if you dont get work in that time you might be able to be supported into work group , means also your hb/ct would be sorted out then

good luck at sorting things out x

I don't know about your circumstances but in a family already struggling with money £35 can mean a difference of eating or not, or keeping the electricity on.

Besides why can't the OP do both, appeal and look for work? That £35 may well pay her fares to interviews or allow her to buy paper and envelopes to apply for jobs.

To the OP good luck hun, I have my fingers crossed for you. Things will get better but as a previous poster has mentioned if you're really unable to cope please see your Dr. You may well be entitled to go onto ESA until you feel better.

    All the best,

Food is available from charities if needs must. Jobcentre pays for fares to interviews. Money can be found. £37.30 might be a lot to some people but it's a matter of economising and living on all the other benefits that the OP claims. The OP could always consider cancelling Virgin Media if they are so desperate for money. If the OP or the OP's OH just worked 1 day per week then they could earn the £37.30 per week plus an extra £5/£10/£20 whatever the disregard is in her situation without affecting the benefits. Anybody can find 1 day of work per week. I didn't look for it because I would have lost the exact same amount in benefits but in this case the OP has already lost that.

I understand why she did it but the Jobcentre just won't see it the same way so it's time to knuckle down stop stressing about the past and get on with a new life which sounds like what she needs after 7 years in the same house and after having living on benefits all that time. Except this year when she's been working part time for the first time ever. It's comfortable on benefits knowing exactly when the next cheque is coming but there comes a time when a job is needed. Those benefits can be taken away at any time and for any reason.

Isn't this after the interview? So you have to have the money to pay the fare before they will?

If you apply in advance they'll pay on the condition you actually attend the interview otherwise they'll take it back.

I may be missin something but OP you did say you were both unemployed and claiming JSA? I do't know but have assuemed you were each claiming on your own NI conts, in which case you OH should ask to claim income based JSA ask for a form JSA3 at the jobcentre.
I dont think it is helpful and is actually insulting and rude for other people to criticize the OPs actions-unless you have experienced this for yourself or are in posession of all the facts, nobody has any right to judge-this board is for benefits advice and the question she posed is what should be addressed, not her lifestyle choices.

You have a right to ask for a full explanation of the decision- this can be oral or in writing. But you must advise them of your intention to appeal within 1 month. Everyone has right of appeal whether or not they or anyone else thinks they can win.

the key question for consideration is not 'did she make herself voluntarily unemployed' but did she have "good cause" for leaving and IMO she can argue that she did. There is also the question of whether 30 miles is a reasonable travelling distance; there is a difference between driving 30 miles door to door, and for example a half hour walk to the bus stop, to get a bus to catch a a train and another 20 minute walk to the place of employment and all this if appropriate should be in the appeal.they should take into account what other things you tried for example transfer your to another area if that was possible, or whether you looked for work in the area you were moving to before you actually moved.
good luck with your appeal should you decide to go ahead

I know whats it's like to live in fear for your property and stuff, we used to rent a place that had awful neighbours, i even got asked if i had any drugs to sell to them after getting out of the car one evening after work!
The kids used to throw vegs/rocks/stones at the cars in the street and set off fireworks under them, amazing how one family could cause so much trouble.
Needless to say we moved out as soon as our 6 month contract ran out!

So for you to be harressed for 7 years and threatened must have been just awful. I too would have moved a million miles just to be out of this situation.

The jobcentre however told me that if you leave a job they stop your payments. I have found them very unhelpful when trying to get an answer to why they cut our JSA, i had to write a letter to the manager in the end and got a response saying that they had made a mistake and put our benefits up again, only for us to recieve a letter the following week saying we would now get 20p a week lol, try living on that!!

Fact is though we both work part time so have some money coming in altho not much, if i was you i would write a letter and address it to the manager and mark the evelope private so it actually does get to them, explain your situation and hopefully you will get a response, i found this the best way to get answers as ringing the helpline is useless.

I hope you have some luck finding work soon :) sorry im not much help !

You really believe that, don't you?

Try telling the same to Fiona Pilkington. Oh sorry, you can't - she's dead.

[FONT=&quot]Or David Askew, the 64 year old man who had a learning disability and was literally tormented to death by oh let's see feral youths AGAIN.

Or Mary Fox who was killed after lit fireworks were pushed through her letter box.

Or Cyril Moran who was assaulted and died after reports of anti social behaviour.

Or Gar Newlove all he did was try to stand up to an anti social mob.

None of these people did anything wrong apart from trying to get on with every day life. I really think anyone who can't see there are people out there who wish nothing more than to make other peoples live through misery are themselves either uncaring or totally delusional and live in a dream world of puppy dogs and rainbows.

I've reported this person twice today for comments made on this thread. A person comes here in need of advice and gets blamed for a situation which is not of their own making; makes me wonder what has happened to the moderation of the boards.

OP if I were you I would post the questions on the consumer action groups benefits forum. They've been very helpful with queries similar to your own.
