My local Tescos (5 of them) have had no special offer posters up at all.The consoles are there, some with yellow SELs with a price on, but no indication of what the offer is. The game of the week section is filled with empty security boxes, and a note says ask at C/S. Where can I find out what the latest offers are, to be able to quote to C/S, without letting on about MSE?
Also most of the computer bits such as memory sticks, bluetooth etc have no prices at all, either on the shelf or the product, and none of the scanners work!
As an afterthought the CDs & DVDs have a big sign saying from £6.97, no SELs or labels on the products!

No posters or SELS indicating discount- then no case, find another store
  • They will agree that it was an overcharge. It's Kevin Kelly, by the way.. ;) Just explain that you bought the GOTW and the Console and no discount came off. The store was going to refund the full amount, then changed its mind and said the refund was on the game only. They then offered you the game for free, which you refused, as the POS clearly states the discount is only available when you buy both items, thus you have been overcharged on both. They'll phone the store and sort it out for you.

I have a feeling Joanne and Kevin are going to be very busy on Monday.

    Thanks for your help.

  • A mate of mine in the South East has bagged two Xbox 360s this morning already! :rotfl:

I had the opportunity to get a 360 this morning, but wasn't sure enough to get one.....when I was sure enough.... the Games had been removed.

The receipt for the game won't show much other than "Xbox 360 game". It doesn't specify which game you bought, so the assistant won't know that you were meant to get a discount. Unfortunately, due to the two transaction thing, you are slightly stuck. Not sure what I would do in this situation, as you weren't able to buy both in one transaction.

Exactly, I just played it dumb and said I wasnt to know that! I tried paying for them both together and was told I had to get it from a different place.

Its a tough one, I could take it back and try buying it again but by the time I have done that they may have taken down the posters etc or taken the games off the shelf.

Surely by giving me the £20 she was admiting the overcharge?

I really dont know what to do, is it worth waiting til monday to speak to Kevin kelly about it?

I don't need an new phone, so I will leave the rich pickings of the phone offers for you guys. I tend to stick to groceries and books as a rule, but a game system would help out my Christmas budget a great deal.

The problem you've got is that because it was done in two separate transactions, you can't prove either way whether the discount would have come off. I don't think you'll have any luck with this one for this very reason. You can't say to Kevin Kelly "I've been overcharged, as the discount didn't come off", as he will say "but you didn't buy them at the same time - two different transactions, therefore not overcharged. However, the store was right to offer you the discount you would have had had you purchased the items together..." Personally, I'd just get a refund on the whole lot and find another store. I wouldn't say that by offering you the £20 back, the store was admitting an overcharge. They were admitting that you weren't able to perform the specific terms of the offer, which was to buy the two items together. Due to this, they offered you the £20 you would have received had you been able to buy the two items together. We all know that that discount wouldn't have come off, but you can't say that to them. That would be admitting prior knowledge of the problem.

That's how I see it, anyway. What do other people think?

If I get the full refund, I might just try buying it again in the same store later that day (or get the OH to do it) assuming they havent taken the poster down etc

I'm gutted I didnt act sooner on the checkout, it only dawned on me as I was queing up at the CS desk what was gonna happen...
