Its a really tough call, cant make up my mind wether to fight for this one or take it back and try again (if I do that I would get another 300 odd clubcard points I guess..)

I would get the full refund from another store, then go back to the original store and buy the two items together. It's easier and far more likely to work than your current situation.

Exactly, I just played it dumb and said I wasnt to know that! I tried paying for them both together and was told I had to get it from a different place.

Its a tough one, I could take it back and try buying it again but by the time I have done that they may have taken down the posters etc or taken the games off the shelf.

Surely by giving me the £20 she was admiting the overcharge?

I really dont know what to do, is it worth waiting til monday to speak to Kevin kelly about it?

The thing is, you never were overcharged. You were charged the correct amount for the game, and the correct amount for the console. As soon as you pointed out there should be a discount you wre given it.

Unfortunately you can hardly say that you want to pay for both items together because you know you will be overcharged!

I would just keep looking - there will be plenty more opportunities!

I have been refused a couple on spurious arguements, but have so far got 3 PS2s, and am waiting on head office decision on an Xbox 360 and another PS2

I need to find a really water tight case for a PSP because I don't fancy contacting head office a 3rd time.

I guess your problem is proving that the guy on the till stopped you buying the package, but I would think the fact you know about it would make you an idiot not to use it and therefore logically if you complain then you knew you should get it, so why would you buy them separately...?

I can see what you mean though, it may be just as easy to cut yuour losses, that said if they see you buy again you'll still have a fight on your hands.... so it's fight about this or fight about the R&R later anyway.

There is an argument to say you should fight this one as it will alert the practice to HO and may stop stores trying to create an R&R loophole for themselves...

Just out of interest, to those of you that are serial R&R-ers, what kind of reaction are you getting when you have to go back to HO multiple times? I'm guessing some of you are speaking to Joanne/Kevin about different refusals over the space of a couple of weeks?

I would have thought they would start to be less inclined to support you if you keep going back, or are they simply happy to uphold the Tesco policy no matter how many times you use it?

I've never spoken to Joanne or Kevin. I've only ever had to contact CS about two separate incidents. Most of the time, the stores end up seeing it my way. ;)

  • Ah I see, anyone who has had to speak to either of them more than once yet? If there hasn't been anyone, you can guarantee I'll be the first

The mate of mine who has already picked up two in the SE messed up her first one. She accidentally bought a PS2 game and the Xbox 360. She made up some excuse to get a refund without drawing attention to the poster or POS and left the store. She returned an hour later and bought the correct game and console, then approached the same CS advisor who had done her refund. She still got R&R'd without argument. She made up an excuse about why she needed to buy the console after all and that was that.

I tell you what, I wish I had some of your CS staff at my local stores, everyone down here is super-tight!
  • Hi there,

I was reading this thread with great interest and was wondering if anyone could give me a hint as to which store to try in my area for the Xbox offer. I will be stuck with my little one for another 2 hours before I will be able to hit the stores, so do you think it'll be still worth trying to hunt one down by that time? I should probably mention that I tried my local one (Hatfield)yesterday with no joy! I saw the posters with the offer, the game of teh week but no Xboxes anywhere!
Any suggestions appreciated as to wether it's still worth going out by this time?

    Thanks!

If they still have the posters up i would suggest asking an assistant if they have any consoles in stock ;)
  • If it's the Virgin/Vodafone offer, then no discount will come off. Go for it. No matter how much they argue it, do not allow them to talk you into just taking your money back and giving them the items back. Do not accept the £20 back, either. Go for the full R&R. If they say no, call CS. If that doesn't work, leave the store with the goods and try CS again until you get a "helpful" member of staff.

In my case HO/CS said it was an overcharge and instructed the store to issue the full R&R the store refused as CS cannot override the store. I had £69 (cost of phone) refunded by CS.

Just wanted to point out that getting a "helpful" member of staff" from CS doesn't always mean the store will refund
  • after the phone fiasco (sir terry emailed me to say it was receiving attention) i went to camberley and eyed up the xbox expired £199 SEL. Couldnt see an X Box 360 only one with a game in, anyway charged £234 but no r&r as it wasnt the right one. doh. so thats £500 of my money in the refund system!
