  • r and r is illegal in what way?

Check Sels in what way? I have had security guards randomly check areas before, yes. But I would not class it as one of their regular routines.

Security guards are there to stop loss to the store (among other things). In its broadest sense, that is what an r and r is.

This friend who i have known for over 15 years tells me i am breaking the law and taking away store bonuses, he tells me i will never get an R&R in his store which has now become a personal goal - i will get one!

I just don''t understand where a security guards remit finishes - they are not employed to check POS material or are they?:p

They are employed to protect the store from loss. If a store wants to include POS checks as part of their remit, then they can. But I do not think that would be common practice.

I think your friend may be playing with you

Only ever had dealings with one Tesco security guard during (to be precise, AFTER) R&R and that was the one who followed me outside and watched me get in my car....and, bizarrely, pretended to write my reg number* on his hand...WITH HIS FINGER! Would YOU entrust this 'sort' with keeping an eye on the SELs? :D

*It was actually an accident repair shop loan car!!
I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!
  • You would not believe how unmotivated most Tesco store staff are. Most of them hate this situation more than any customer could. Prices change so often, there just aren't enough staff to deal with the constant changes. Add to that the fact that all staff nowadays are trained to be multi-skilled. If the checkouts get busy, the call is put out for all multi-skilled staff to go help out on the tills. This means they have to stop what they are doing. Half the time, what they were doing doesn't get finished..

I hate to say this, but this sounds just like my workplace - and it's not Tescos !!
You make me feel so sorry for the staff, because they sound about as appreciated and de-motivated as I am.....that I think I better try a few more R&R's to show my solidarity with the work-force !
The management system is beyond belief. There are so many managers per store, it's ridiculous. None of them seem to know what is going on and the bureaucracy has to be seen to be believed. Communication is not Tesco's strong point. Then we have "Options" - Tesco's very own fast track promotion scheme. That's completely useless in some stores, as many people on Options get there not through talent or ability, but due to who they know. Really, unless you spend time working with these people, you'll never see what really goes on behind the scenes. If you think what you see as a customer is bad, you really need to just how bad it is for the staff.

Oh this sounds Ssssoooo familiar. Is it just the 'British' way or running an organisation, or what ?

Please don't tell me any more, otherwise I might go all gooey and mushy, and 'give-in' when offered the difference on an overcharge:cry:

Re comments about changing prices Is this not probably the root cause of Tescos pricing/R&R catastrophe ?
Take the Lego Starwars II PS2 game
Was initially stickered at £27.xx, but charged at £29,xx - I got an R&R along with other readers
Then it suddenly scanned at £27.xx - apparently the price changed within a 20 minutes slot one day - 14th Sept I think it was, from someone buying it, to getting to the cs desk.
For a week or so now I have noticed it at £28.xx.

I have been told by cs before that the sticky label prices are put on by the supplier/factory, so is it any wonder we get so many R&R's if the powers that be in Tescos decide to alter the prices up to 3 times a week !!!
Other supermarket chains have thousands of lines on their shelves as well, but I wonder if they change their prices as frequently as Tesco do ?

This is very true, but not confined to tesco. I've never met an asda, sainsbury, safeway or morrisons employee (never known anyone that works for the other supermarkets) who wasn't unmotivated and who could give a flying fsck about the job. The very nature of supermarkets mean there will never be enough staff to deal with the (proper) running of the store.

I have a friend who works as a security guard at Tesco who tells me R&R is illegal and i just wonder what a security guards job actually is? I thought they were supposed to stop thefts, not purchases that were overcharged. He tells me it is part of his job to check sels and make sure the store is not being ripped off? Surely that is not correct? A security guard would not be trusted with store pricing or am i wrong ?:confused::confused:

By the way, the said person has been known to be econimical with the truth !
Are his tatoos spelt correctly or is he a supervisor?:rotfl:

Together we can make a difference.

I am doing nothing wrong, if Tesco offer a deal i take the deal up , pay in full and ifi am overcharged, then i chase my refund as i am entitled to do with tesco's price guarantee......

And what qualities do you think you can bring to grillerzrus then Bruno?
I look like a rite ard bastid and people won't f*ck wiv me :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

They always make the one who filled out the application form without asking for help the supervisor I'm told.

To add balance I should add I am sure there are some Tesco security/Loss reduction officers out there of sound calibre. I've just never met any of them, but then again I've only ever visited around 90% of their stores in England and Wales they might just all be in Scotland or Ireland.:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
