not just me who got a ban then.

No....and you wont be the last......There is a theory that if we all get together on this, complain to TS that we are being banned for carrying out Tescos policy, that if theres enough of us it could make a big stir...............

Tesco customers barred from stores after being overcharged

I agree with VeryTrying. I used to live in Bradford and we always got everything in Morrisons. I might ONLY use Tesco for free stuff from now on... LOL! :D

Yes that's what I do. Last week I spent £110 in Morrisons, nearly £40 in Lidl (but that did include 2 cases of Stella), and under £5 three times in Tesco, just to make the trolley look a bit more believeable when I collected the R&Rs.

I wouldn't like Tesco to think I only visit them to collect freebies (even though they would be right)!
  • I think all those in posession of an xbox that wasnt refunded by the store could now be banned fromthe store, now that could be a problem for some people especaily if they went to their local store. opps.
John, I would appreciate it if you would stop the scaremongering. There is no reason to believe that everyone who was overcharged at the weekend will end up getting banned if they fight for what is rightfully theirs. Comments like yours will only put people off claiming what they are entitled to for fear of getting banned from the stores.

You'll find that plenty of people here are quite happy to shop at the stores you've mentioned. In fact, there are threads on these very boards about what to buy at Lidl and Aldi. There's nothing wrong with Asda or Sainsburys, either. I've never shopped at Netto, so wouldn't know. Your post makes you sound like a snob.

Just to muddy the waters somewhat,

If you were a Tesco shareholder, would they be allowed to ban you then? As strictly, it is actually your property as well.....?

    Any thoughts?
  • They do not need a reason to ban simply because the store is private property. They do not need to tell you the reason for the banning for exactly the same reason. Tell you what, though. I'll come round to your house tonight and walk in your door. If you try to stop me, I'll claim discrimination on religious grounds. Trust me when I say your arguments wouldn't stand up in court. Private property - law protects the owner.

I agree totally with what your saying about letting people into my house, thanks for the clarification. But not the bit about Tesco being able to ban without reason, I should maybe have not tried to simplify it.

Basically the difference between my house and a store is that I generally have a rule that the general public is not allowed in my flat, therefore my reason for not letting you in (although I would actually "drag" you in and drown you with beer and roast beef because I value you as a person and an online friend) would be that I do not general public into my house as a matter of normal behaviour.

Now, if ran a store then the law is somewhat different. The law is generally the same however as I have a practise of inviting you and others in to my store then you are allowed to claim that I have discriminated against you. The fact that my store is my land and my property does not come into it.

Previous cases include the famous "No Dogs, No Blacks and No Irish" signs inside windows in B&Bs up and down the land. It is illegal to discriminate against people based on sex, religion, race or colour even if it is private property. They can ban you for no reason however if you have done nothing illegal and have not been offensive then they are on very dangerous ground indeed.
They certainly can......but not only that, they can bar you if they dont like the colour of your hair, your make of car, your perfume......they can bar you without giving you a reason.......its their property.
Just because it is private property does not give me the right to pick and choose who I let in with discrimination.

I can't say which store for obvious reasons (they'd twig to me straight away) but on shelf they had the "Buy a PSP or DS console & game of the week and get £10 discount" SEL right next to the value packs. Small poster shows GOTW as Tekken, so bought a white value pack and Tekken - £210 and no discount.
CS agreed it looked wrong and called a manager who eventually offered a £10 refund. I pointed out the poster, so he had to call a real manager who agreed everything looked right and they couldn't work out how the discount hadn't worked. They weren't overly pleased but gave me a full refund and retain.

I *think* this is something the individual store can flag up on the system so not necessariyly a nationwide thing. Had this with some bacon a while ago but went for it at another few stores and no probs whatsoever. Anyone know for sure?
I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!

You're not listening, Kondormid...They can ban you and do not need to give a reason. It would be down to you to prove discrimination. Unless you've got solid proof that you have been discriminated against on the ground of religion, race, sexuality, gender or disability, then you wouldn't stand a chance in hell of getting this to stand up in a court of law. See? Allowing General Public in is neither here nor there. It is still private property. As such, the proprietor has the right to choose who he wants in. Tesco does not have a sign up saying certain people cannot come in, so the case you've cited is not relevant.

Tesco manager: He was banned because he was abusive to my staff.

    End of story.

    Prove you weren't.
