Completely agree with you!
Don't 19yr olds get an injection now or something (might be completely wrong!) but then there is a huge gap to get a smear if you are aged somewhere inbetween!0 -

Going for a bath, using my swanky bath hoist, now...hoping it makes me feel less mingy and generally a bit better, if only mentally
Also worried about what madbird said about waiting 6months for the gall bladder op and wondering if I should be/will have to be postponing TTC"I am indelibly stained by hope and longing" - Nuts in May0 -

How are you going to cope if your labour needs to be induced, or the midwife needs to check how far your cervix has dilated by putting her hand up there? Is this something that you have given serious consideration to?
Wow this is very sniding! How do you know her situation? She may have been raped/abused/hard time in past etc and just worked up the courage to do this. I think the fact she has done it speaks for itself don't you?!
I personally am even older. The situation I have just described fits myself. I had my 1st ever smear in December. I didn't need one before I was a virgin until my wedding. Don't judge others until you know whats under the cover.0 -

((Hugs)) fingers crossed you won't have to.Wow this is very sniding! How do you know her situation? She may have been raped/abused/hard time in past etc and just worked up the courage to do this. I think the fact she has done it speaks for itself don't you?!

My thoughts exactly. I when I was 21 the NHS did offer a smear to women of that age but I repeatedly refused due to personal reasons I do not wish to go into. I had my first one about five years ago, as I said in a post earlier in the week - due to illness doctors were struggling to diagnose (turned out to be glandular fever that kept showing negative in tests but hey ho it helped me get over my fear of them!).
You can't really judge someone you don't know. Besides I believe Fannyanna is 26 so is only a year over the age that the NHS now tests.
Fear is not always rational and it takes a lot of courage to face your fears and overcome them.

I do understand that some people will find going for a smear very stressful due to their own personal circumstances, but if you find that difficult then I stand by my comment of 'how are you going to cope when a midwife has to put her hand up there?'
Nobody likes having a smear and probably every woman dreads it, but it should be part of a health check every woman undertakes before ttc, along with checking that your rubella vaccination is still working etc.
I find it helps me to look at it like this - cervical smear or cervical cancer, which would be worse to deal with?0 -

In fact they won't let you have a smear any earlier than 25, even if you ask for one. NHS rules

And I found out that it's 30 here in NL!!! I was lucky though, as I fell into the category who were called for a smear at 21, and had another at 24 and the last one, just before I left the UK. So, I would be due the next one at around age 30 in the UK anyway.
Thankfully, mine have always come back clear, but this wasn't the case for my one of my closest friends recently. She had to have further investigations and then a small op to remove some pre-cancerous cells. Sounds awful, but she is fine now, and this has (hopefully) prevented her from developing cancer.
So, if anyone is scared, please go and do it anyway. Take whoever you need to with you for moral support, and explain your fears/discomfort to the doctor/nurse. They will have come across other nervous ladies, and will be able to reassure you etc. Better to catch these things as early as possible.

Hello everyone and congratulations to all the BFP's!! :T
Had a chat with my doc recently and he said that he could prescribe something that began with N to bring on a period. He said that 60 days was a lengthy time for AF to arrive following stopping the pill.
He also said that if I wanted to start trying for a baby I should just get on with it and not worry about other people. Feel in a bit of a quandry as to what to do. Not had AF so not sure when I ovulate so feeling a bit.
I told him that I was taking agnus castus to which he just smiled....guess docs dont get the whole herbal remedy thing!
In respect of smear tests I have had these since I was a teenager and yes they are not the best thing to get excited about BUT they are necessary. I dont like laying there having someone look at parts of me I have not even seen but they are very discreet and cover your modesty with a blanket.
