Hi can anyone offer any advice. We bought a flat screen tv from richer sounds costing us over £600 two years ago. Yesterday it just stopped working making a really funny noise. The guarantee was only for a year so has run out. Im really miffed because I really would have expected it to last for many more years. Has anyone had similar problems or any advice?
Thanks0 -

theres loads of threads on this
i have to ask though.why didnt you take up the 5 year warranty from Richer sounds?
i bought 2 from them and saw it as a no brainer for saving hassle.
our biggest is a 50" and it means they come and collect if theres a problem0 -
Ive wasted hundreds over the years on extended warraties for Tumble driers, Printers, fridge freezers etc and never needed to use them so just didnt do it this time. A decicion i am regretting now.0

Hi all, after some help/thoughts/suggestions on this one...
So after a really crappy year for my partner with 2 life threatening illnesses I wanted to give her something to look forward to. We managed to book 2 tickets to see Take That on 31st May 2011, straight away after getting the tickets we booked into the Marriott Hotel in Sunderland which is 2 miles from the event and easily accessible, no hassle of driving miles to get there etc.
Today we received a call from the hotel to say that a system fault had occured and that of the 82 rooms at the hotel 40 had been overbooked so we now had to either go stay at the Gateshead Metrocentre Marriott which is 17 miles away or get a refund!?
Now my question is this, can they just palm us off with these 2 options and what are our rights given the fact we received a confirmation of the booking and a reference? Surely they can't just say sorry it was a computer error as we all know that given the fact thousands of fans would be trying to book hotels it would have been way more than 40 over booked.
My view is that someone has offered big bucks to stay there for a group booking & we just get kicked out.
Really appreciate any thoughts or suggestions on this one as I'm fuming about it, we could have picked a host of other hotels at the time but chose this one as it seemed to have good reviews, nice location/venue etc. Now all other hotels are full!!
ThanksOfficial DFW Member 587 :T0 -

what would you like them to do?
if they have no rooms then they have no rooms
they have offered a refund or an alternative location
if its location causes further costs eg driving/parking then you could ask fro a discount but not much else IMO0 -
Thanks for the reply.
Well we booked the room, received confirmation to find out a few weeks later that the system apparently made an error and they now have to cancel our room.
The original hotel was booked as it was only a short distance away, we can't walk 17 miles to an event and it would also as you suggest cost us for travel, time, fuel & parking.
Surely they can't just cancel our reservation and get away with it thats what Im asking really?Official DFW Member 587 :T0 -
Could somebody help me with this one? A friend bought an HP G61 laptop costing £379 at Tesco. The laptop was excellent but after he had owned it for about 3 months a burglar broke in and stole it whilst he was at work. The laptop bag was also stolen and the bag contained the receipt! Duh! The laptops cardboard box with all the bar-codes was also taken. We do know the serial number and date and time of purchase but Tesco refuse to give a duplicate proof of purchase as they claim that sales records are only kept for nine days. OK there is still the Santander credit card receipt but this doesn't state what the £379 was for and the insurers attitude is "that could be for anything". Where do we go from here? My "mate" seems to think I can wave a magic wand but my experience with Ombudsmen is that they always side with big business.0

In November 2010 I reinstated a Currys Whatever Happens policy on my Stoves cooker, which had lapsed in July because they did not send me the usual renewal offer. I paid for a one year policy and was send the policy document, which unfortunately I forgot to check for mistakes. My cooker developed a fault which Stoves could not fix. To cut a long story short - Currys will not honour my service agreement because they say it is not valid. This is because when they set up the agreement, they mistakenly put the expiry date as September 2004!!!!! I am whatever what my legal rights are and where I should go next to dispute this.0

I am having trouble with my mobile phone which has developed a fault - the touch pad symbols do not work when I press them or the phone rings people when I am trying to just open the various menus. I spoke to someone in the Orange shop in town and they said to ring Orange. I have spoekn to Orange who have agreed the phone is faulty but have told me they will replace it if I pay an admin charge. I said they should do it without charging then they said it was out of warranty. I have only had this particlar phone since mid-july as the original phone they sent me in May, which I got as a replacement for a phone I lost and paid an admin fee for the insurance, turned out to be a faulty model and was replaced free of charge in July. Now it needs to replaced they are saying they have to cvharge an admin fee as my warranty started when I took out the original phone and calls package and does not count from when I got this particular phone. Anyone know who I can contact to clarify what is right?0
