I still have no idea why anyone would use them, when exactly the same tickets are available at other retailers (including stations and websites) without booking fees.
  • The Trainline are a disgrace, after three months of waiting and two calls to them, I will not be getting my refund, due to their inability to retain my returned tickets in their hands, but surprise, surprise have got the rail card element!!!! which ofcourse falles below their £10, admin fee. I am a relavteivly frequent traveller, with this shower, but no more will they be getting any business from me.

All the regulars on here will say the same thing don't buy your tickets from the trainline.con, get them from the train companies themselves.

Train Companies don't charge booking/credit card fees and the majority of them will have discounts/offers if you travel on their trains or their advance tickets.

And if you do need to complain about anything, they normally answer your letter within 10 days on average.

  • I am really unhappy that I paid for tickets through the Train Line. My train was cancelled due to signalling problems and no other transport was provided as a way of getting to our destination (without missing the concert we were going to) that day. We had to find our own way and pay for alternative transport. I then find that even though I had no control over my cancelled journey that I am going to still get a £10 admin charge for my cancelled journey!!! I have also had to pay to send my tickets recorded delivery back to ensure the refund. An appalling service.

I do not advise using Thetrainline because
    - The site charges fees, these fees are not charged on most companies' own websites, or at stations.
    - The company has a reputation of providing extremely poor customer service
    - The user interface is inferior to WebTIS (used by Red Spotted Hanky, East Coast, LM, Southern etc)
    - Tickets are never cheaper on Thetrainline, and sometimes more expensive, than booking with the company directly - especially the case for the journeys I use where it would cost me significantly more to use Thetrainline.
    - Their advertising is misleading, and the general ethics and trustworthiness of the company are dubious.

If your train is cancelled then you are entitled to a full refund, without admin charges. Getting money back from Thetrainline is difficult. I had big problems years ago (which I won't go into, but were around the time this very old thread started!) and so I do not use them, and never will again.

I would say that in this case, you should get a full refund from the train operating company concerned, directly.

However if you have sent tickets to Thetrainline already and submitted a claim from them, then it will be too late for that (you can only submit one claim per ticket as otherwise it could be seen as fraudulent), so my only advice would be to contact Thetrainline again and report the matter to Passenger Focus.

Don't know why yours was - but the trainline rep hasn't got permission to post as a rep.

I came to this country as a student in 2007. Got a ticket for trainline from lonodn to sheffield for 7 pounds which for me was a steal. Unfortunately when my card bill came I was charged 55 pounds separately for I dont know what! hence the one way ticket cost me 7+55 pounds. At that time i was unaware of what had happened as I was not able to change billing address to receive the bill and neither did i have internet banking. I know its too late to prove anything at this point but it irks me whenever I travel. Can something be done now?

Against the trainline for something that happened in 2007, good luck your going to need it. As I doubt very much, that company would keep records that far back.
