Has anyone ever successfully received a refund from the TrainLine.com?

It's been a while since I've posted anything, but I'm hoping somebody might be able to help me with this! FOUR MONTHS ago, my OH purchased a ticket on the Trainline Website from London Padd to Cardiff for a footy match. A couple of days before he was due to go, he read on the football website that trains to Cardiff we going to be packed and those without a reserved seat would have to wait in a queue - first come first served!
However, there was no ability to reserve a seat on the website in the first place...! So we paid £47 for a ticket (we paid for insurance too) he couldn't use. We sent a letter with the tickets as per their refund procedure but have yet to receive a reply or any money! Have just sent a 2nd letter, but am so disgusted by their level of customer service. Just wondered whether anyone else has had any joy? Seems insane that they sell more tickets than they have seats on the train - if that makes sense. Can anyone help me/advise?
Thanks in advance!
Normally if the train you planned to catch is delayed or cancelled and you decide not to travel, you should be entitled to a full refund without being charged an administration fee. This is certainly the case checking the passenger's charters for London Midland and Virgin Trains. However if you couldn't catch the train you planned to due to overcrowding would the same rule apply?0 -
Yes yes yes. :j Having booked my ticket, at a £60 saving, I found I needed to travel a day earlier. Things happen! I rang the train line last week. No problem. As I had already collected my tickets I had to buy new tickets and post the ones I didn't need to the Edinburgh address. I was given my new collection reference there and then. My Train Line account was showing refund requested. A few days later it was showing refund made. I have checked my bank today and there it is. Ok £10 admin. That is clear when you use the site and I still saved £50.0

last year i booked a ticket for my husband to go to wrexham via shrewsbury this was a direct train no changes
they then decided to change the route and said all passengers must change at shrewsbury i asked for a refund based on the fact i only booked this route because it was direct and they had changed it after i booked it
i was refused stating things change nothing they can do
theyre con artists also with their posting charges and even to pick tickets up they charge theres no way round itWhat goes around-comes around0 -

Sorry, but what is the difference here compared to some poor devil on the 0823 from Surbiton to Waterloo every morning ?
Or me, when I go to the Emirates on a Saturday afternoon? When there is a football match, pop concert or whatever there will be a lot of people going - therefore the trains and roads WILL be busy !
Reading between the lines most of the problems quoted with the trainline.com are initiated by "customer error". They don't send out tickets with the wrong date on - they send out tickets with what the customer typed in on them !!
They may be incompetent, inept, useless, stupid - but immoral ? What goes on in their offices ? We should be told - ring the Sun who might want to do an expose.
Apart from which - why does ANYONE pay the trainline for what they can get for free from a TOC ? - and - if the OP had booked through a TOC there would almost certainly have been something on their website about busy trains to an "event" - just for those who didn't know that thousands of others might be going as well :cool:0 -

Strange, there's normally loads a seats on those trains :rotfl:just wish it was the same for the underground trains from Earl's Court to Fulham BroadwayWhoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -

Did you make it a condition of purchase that you were only buying because it was a direct train?
I am sure you didn't because I am equally sure that the trainline would not have sold you a ticket with that condition.0 -

Actually, in hindsight that was a poor example. Personally I don't travel by train or bus, usually get Jenkins to take me in the Bentley - I suppose many of my fellow supporters do likewise ! Just the "away" fans from other less affluent areas have to use public transport I suppose: ......................:rotfl::rotfl:0 -

Yes there is. Buy the tickets elsewhere. Very easy.
And the trainline didn't decide to change the route - the company operating the trains did (or were forced to by Network Rail)0 -
The Trainline are a disgrace, after three months of waiting and two calls to them, I will not be getting my refund, due to their inability to retain my returned tickets in their hands, but surprise, surprise have got the rail card element!!!! which ofcourse falles below their £10, admin fee. I am a relavteivly frequent traveller, with this shower, but no more will they be getting any business from me. :mad:0
