Anyone who has a genuine carer and pays for their services is paid money from the DLA to cover such costs.
    Absolutely.
No one else has considered this though.

£18.95 doesn't go far - not when you need to buy equipment too.

SS and agencies usually charge £7+ an hour.

The rest of the people who complain about this are the ones who have a family member as a carer and wanted to get them in free to save a few quid.

If I wasn't disabled, I could go by myself. Just because I take a family member, doesn't make them any less of a carer, does it?

But my understanding is that £18.95 is for low care needs only
    ?
Don't get me wrong I am not saying that disabled people get a great deal and I do have a family member who receives high care/mobility allowance so I do understand to some extent.
mspig I totally appreciate the work that you have to put in and know that it cannot be easy in the slightest and also appreciate that if you had an outside agencies help then it would cost far more. £55 per week does not seem to be a great amount for two children needing 24 hour care!
However, in the same vein if your children were not disabled you would still most likely be required to accompany them and pay full price for doing that.

But she'd probably be at work earning a lot more than £53.90 per week.

as a carer, yes i get 50 odd quid a week, and i know its not much for looking after 2 sons with 24/7 care needs, but as such they get hrc and lrm, and i use this for days out etc, so i cant understand why most places offer discount anyway.
loves to knit and crochet for others

I've just looked at admission prices!! It's an expensive treat and there will be lots of people in all different circumstances who can't afford it full stop.

So I think a carer being charged a concessionary rate when admitted with someone with a disability is more than fair.

I'd *love* to even go to the supermarket alone never mind out for the day. Pleasing myself and doing exactly what I want? Where do I sign up?!
I also said that there would be virtually none who would go alone.....not none. There is always exceptions.

Who goes to the Zoo by themselves though?

Every week......you would get that every week....not once a year.

So, a few weeks money would go towards equipment perhaps, one weeks money would pay your carer into the zoo....etc etc.

Dont try to kid anyone that every single penny you get for care needs is already spent on care needs and leaves nothing for a zoo trip once in a while.

More like 5 weeks of money goes on equipment at least several times a year. A lot more than one weeks money would need to pay for me and a carer to go to the zoo - food, entrance fee, etc.
