No respect for learner drivers!
I'm currently learning to drive and whilst there are drivers who are very considerate, some are rude and downright dangerous!
Take today, I was driving just under the speed limit (which was 40mph) a man in a sports car was right up behind me and overtook coming up to a bend
Later on, another car overtook me, as I was signalling right & slowing down, and beeped and waved at me as he went past
I know people like that think it's amusing & learner drivers are easy targets, but it's incredibly off putting & scary when people do these things (although I guess it's good preparation for when I pass my test!)
Sorry needed a rant, do these people forget what it was like when they were learning?

ive noticed a lot of really bad driving instructors recently.
one had a pupil park on the wrong side of the road with headlights on blinding oncoming traffic.
another decided it was ok to stop a pupil at a busy junction holding up a lot of traffic so he could explain something, i and a few other vehicles had to sit for a few minutes behind them waiting for a break in turning traffic to pass on the wrong side of the road at the junction. there was other quieter junctions they could have stopped at,but he chose this one. if the learner had done something reallt wrong then the instructor should have took over the control of the car to clear the junction at least.
driving instructors speeding on motorways and residential roads.
these guys are meant to be setting standards to new drivers. no wonder theres so many idiots on the roads....work permit granted!0 -
While your on about that, on my (second, successful) test the examiner had me pull over on quite a busy road where there wasn't room for me to be stopped and for people to pass in both directions. I know I would've been annoyed if I was one of the cars behind me. Then there was the day my instructor rather proudly announced that he'd got his new Picanto cruising at 90 on the motorway! For test purposes only, he hastened to add.goldspanners wrote: »ive noticed a lot of really bad driving instructors recently.

I was driving along a road last week and a learner car was stopped half way across the give way line at a junction into my path. I basically had to stop and wait for a gap in traffic from the opposite direction before I could pass.
Now if I had done that when I was learning to drive, my instructor would of had be backing up.
I've also had AA driving school cars with instructor only driving fly past me at 80mph+ on duel carriageways before.0 -
I have too seen bad instructors for a year or so, teaching learners doing 20 MPH max on a motorway one time I saw, another went through a Red0

There are bad drivers everywhere. Not a lot but enough.
You just have to take it in your stride, and be vigilant.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
I did watch a franchised driving instuctor (not a pupil) nudge a car at the end of my road turning around, and just drive off........
Instructors are people too, it's like blaming a teacher..... Sometimes they're just trying their best... If you see what I mean.
I get annoyed at people getting angry at learner drivers (and horse riders) oddly enough, we all had to learn....

This seems to have gone off topic a little.
OP: Trust me that it's nothing personal and people are still inconsiderate scumbags no matter how you drive and whether or not you have a red L stuck on the back of your car or not, though it's worth bearing in mind that no-one wants to be stuck behind a learner. I don't know the road you are on but if, for example, it was the last overtaking opportunity and then the road turns into a twisty fun 60mph single carriageway then I can understand that they may decide to chance it a little rather than risk doing the entire run at 40.
Out of interest do many learners use the area that you are driving in? There used to be one estate near me that had a huge variety of junction types and thus all the local driving schools took learners there all the time, at any given time (during working hours, obviously) you could find 4 or 5 learners pootling around the estate at 5 below the speed limit, stalling their cars and being hesitant. I used to take a slightly longer route through a different estate to avoid them, so I can't imagine how aggravating it would be to actually live there. One person I knew did mention that a couple of potential buyers for their house had decided not to because of all the learners.
Oh and driving instructors, once alone, are some of the worst drivers out there, though I guess I can understand the need to blow off a bit of steam at the end of the day.0
