Poohbear - pleased your veg grew. I spent less than £10 on the veg garden this year and I too am picking toms, cucumbers, chillis, runner and french beans, mountains of courgettes, peas for the boys, carrots despite my stoney soil, pumpkins on the way and we have eaten all of the new pots. I am blanching and freezing as much as I can.
Mrs Chaos - we are lucky that the house came with mature fruit trees, starwberries, raspberries, rhubarb, etc so I have four ten year old espaliers (apple, plum, pear) and three very mature normal (apple and pear) trees. Next door have a good cherry which they let me pick my side in exchange for eggs plus we have a quince tree, and a good sized veg plot even if it was very stoney/hungry and has eaten manure for the last three years.

DH got the car he wanted - nice to see him happy. We can't pick it up for 10 days though.

Trying to get leaked pen stains out of our lovely gazillion count bedding.........

eta - fedup, if you are running out of raw materials you know where I am.......

Rach - sad news about the stabbing didn't realise that's exactly where you used to live. Looks like it was a inside family job - so sad.

Triker, I *adore* the chickens. They are such fun. They've worked out their pecking order very well now. Holly is top chick. It's so funny, when one of them finds a juicy slug or worm or something, instead of quietly demolishing it, she runs around with a sort of squeak saying "look what I've found, look what I've found". The others, of course, then chase after her and try to grab it!

Lil-me - yes it is yuck hope you're not as yukky as me. I was going to reply a couple of hours ago and ended up just going to bed instead..

But the sun has finally come out so I'd better get some washing on the line - it'll dry in no time the breeze is that strong...

    Afternoon all :)

We had some rain earlier, just in time for me to be out with the dog who walks really slowly so I was quite wet when we got back, but I saw a green woodpecker and the swallows were flying low right round my head, it was a bit surreal! However, now it's sunny and breezy (and the dog is asleep on the settee).

Went to another garden centre this morning with DD1 where I bought a couple more birthday cards and some violas for DD2 when she gets back from holiday.

Catching up now, hope everyone's OK.

Getting there slowly... all the vital laundry done for today. Towels just finishing off in the TD as its started raining, and the next load will need to go in there too.

Tomato soup currently cooking - that's the last of yesterday's 5kg box of tomatoes dealt with :D

Might make some courgette soup, and also need to find something to do with the rather elderly beans that have been lurking at the bottom of the fridge. However, first I probably need to freeze and clear up the current lot of cooking, as I have to be able to get some cupcakes made and frozen. And that requires a tidy kitchen :o (then again... if I cook more stuff and freeze it, there'll be more room to put stuff away ;))

Maybe I'll have a rest and a cup of tea first though :p

  • Hi everyone....been AWOL for a couple of weeks so I hope everyone is OK. Last Saturday we went camping in North Devon supposedly for a week but the weather was really bad on the Wednesday and our tent leaked so we ended up with wet sleeping bags! Unfortunately that meant the end of our holiday a few days early. DD1 was gutted but was very grown up and understood that it would not be much fun sleeping in wet beds and as the rain showed no signs of stopping that day and it was still forecast rain that night and the next day she was ok about it. We did still have a lovely time even though DH and I got soaking wet and very muddy taking the tent down.

But, we're back now and DH is watching football at the pub. DD2 is having a little snooze and DD1 and I are sewing. We've just made a peg bag on the sewing machine and now she's currently measing Toby the toy dog so she can make him a sleeping bag.

Flying....we have washed lots of soaking wet muddy towels from mopping up water in the tent, the girls sleeping bags have been washed and are on the line and other than that, there's not much been done. Fortunately it's not too horrendous, but could do with a bit of kitchen tidying I think.

Sounds like everyone is busy preserving for the winter. DD1 wanted to know if the blackberries were ready yet so we could make blackberry jam. Not made blackberry jam before so if anyone has got a good easy receipe I'd be glad to have a copy.

    See you later. x

grateful - he went for a Mazda RX8, the 231bhp one that actually sits 4 normal sized people. I drive a 110 defender so not remotely green either, but plenty of space for children. One fun car, one practical so all are now happy.

DS1 and I have just been for a walk and to pick some blackberries for the freezer. Sadly in my absence the DW emptying/house cleaning fairy hasn't been for a visit so I now I need to get myself motivated.
