My mate has managed to sell one of these and the purchaser is from the US. What is the cheapest way to send it to someone in the USofA?

This will depend on how much you want it insured for, I was quoted just under £20 to insure it for around £60.

Beware tracking in the USA with royal mail is hit and miss, unlessyou pay for a courire you may never know if it's arrived (or rather if they claim it's never arrived you'll have a hard time proving it otherwise). I've even paid the extra for them to get a signiture on a postcard to return to me and that never arrived.

I was in John Lewis in Norwich today. Not only did they have two boxed Elmo's ready to sell at £34.99, but one out of the box on display for the punters to play with.

My little boy watched it twice, then wandered off and played Brio for 20 minutes. I know which I would be more tempted to buy.

Quote on Saturday from an aquaintance of mine who is a toy buyer in Southampton and supplies small retailers around Hampshire

"We are securing more and more of the little sods every week, Fisher Price have done this before with relatively low RRP Xmas products. Now that they have built up enough hype around the product, parents who have no idea what their kids want will want this toy now just in case their little delights decide that it is their hearts desire two weeks before Christmas. Consequently, due to fact that this toy is not ridiculously expensive these "floating voters" will want to secure one now on the off-chance. Fisher Price are aware of this additional bonus customer base and, due to the fact that they have deliberately created it, will not miss out on it by screwing up supply."

I then asked him about the American market and the scarcity over there - he just shrugged and said that if there was a real supply problem we sure as hell wouldn't have any over here at all.

Take it, leave it, ignore it at your leisure or peril.

....but before you do, check out the stock levels in Argos in the South West - there doesn't seem to be a huge shortage to me.

Maybe they have pulled it off their website so that people cannot sell the reservation numbers on ebay.
