  • I've just had a good look at Mike Weatherley's directorships, past and present, where he lives and where he came from and I actually think the guy is clean and fairly decent. There is charity work in there that predates his ambitions in parliament and a very modest house, some small businesses but nothing that screams at you like the Butler portfolio.

    He's a new MP so a bit green and probably eager to please his electorate which is why he got taken in so easily by the ample charms of Ms Butler. As for his wife, well he was 53 and she was 24 you know (or something like that), he was a fool but far from unique and whilst it's an interesting development, I think (for what it's worth and I can't quite believe I am saying this) that we should go easy on the man.

    An end to squatters rights what about homeowners rights? Statement from Mike Weatherly MP

    An end to squatters rights what about homeowners rights? "We are pleased to announce that today we will be launching an online petition aimed at changing the law with the support of Mike Weatherley MP who will be supporting our petition and raising the matter in Parliament.”

    Commenting on the campaign Mike said;
    " What struck me from Suzy's story was how difficult it is to evict a bad tenant. As a Member of Parliament, I come across many examples of tenants being treated poorly by landlords. But it is easy to forget that landlords can be treated badly as well. Just as I am always happy to defend tenants against injustice, I am just as keen to stand up for landlords. Suzy Butler’s case highlights the need for the law to be strengthened and simplified."

    Wonder if that's in response to our queries here? They seem determined he does support them.

    That's a complete "sitting on the fence" kind of statement from the MP.

    Of course you have to remember he was only fed her side of the so-called "squatter" story when he supposedly made that statement.

    I am sure if the tenant had started a campaign and wished to gain his support he would have made an equally similar statement.
  • Clearly a project starter, not a project finisher.
    Worst type of person there is....

    Depends. If the person's a terrorist / bank robber / other nasty type, it's a good thing.

    Oh I made sure he knew the otherside of the story alright when I wrote to him, so perhaps taking the points raised here he was happy to sit on the fence :D

    Is that legal? It might be in the contract but I distantly recall such penalties, where you can charge them, are capped. Could be wrong though.

    Anyway that is obviously part of how Suzy Butler has calculated extra money of what she thinks Carmen Butler owes.

    In general contract law, penalty clauses, designed to be punative not compensatory, are not allowed.
