As far as I know we've heard nothing from Mike directly but he was quoted on facebook by "An end to squatters rights what about homeowners rights?" in the statement from Suzy which ends:
... I would however like to state that my experience and the genuine feedback I have received has spurred me on to to get the law changed".
"We are pleased to announce that today we will be launching an online petition aimed at changing the law with the support of Mike Weatherly MP who will be supporting our petition and hopes to present an Early Day Motion to Parliament
Commenting on the campaign Mike said; " What struck me from Suzy's story was how difficult it is for someone to evict a tenant. It's right here should be protection for the tenant but the eviction process is clearly taking too long. I would like to see the system simplified and brought in line with the commercial sector"
So, unless Suzy has misquoted Mike after their meeting, he supports their case. I suppose he'd not realise the details but then I'm sure there were some letters sent to him prior to their meeting pointing out housing law. Perhaps he didn't get to read them?
I expect being doorstepped and humiliated by the press is distressing for anyone, more so for those who didn't sign up to a life in the public eye like the tenant.0 -
The September issue of "Landlord & buy-to-let Magazine" just dropped through the wife's letterbox. The Criminal Ms Butler is highlighted in an article on "Nightmare Tenants" (calm down,, you don't know what they've printed yet...)..."highly stage-managed attempt to get the tenant to leave". Tessa Shepperson's comments are well covered, "she certainly seems to have interfered with the peace and comfort of her tenants occupation of the property. Unless the tenant enjoyed having a TV crew invade her living room, while her landlord berated her on camera" etc etc etc...
Whilst not all of the article is sympathetic to the Criminal Butler's tenant, it is certainly not sympathetic or entirely in support of the Criminal Butler. It does point out the tenant was, alledgedly, in rent arrears.
As far as I'm concerned the Criminal Butler is a disgrace to Landlords, to Brighton, to Britain and to the charity she claims to be involved in. Don't think we want Scum like her in our country do we?? Others may have different views...
Cheers!
Artful
(There are of course nightmare tenants, as there are nightmare landlords, nightmare letting agents & nightmare maintenance people...
The article mentions one tenant who stole the conservatory [complete with picture of the foundations, floor+furniture - but no conservatory]: My favourite story was the tenants who sold all the furniture at a boot-sale - mind you it's never happenned to me...)0 -

They'll just pick & choose, cut & paste what they want, how they interpreted it.
In fact those words mimic their own posts elsewhere, there does not seem to be anything significant added by the MP, therefore I would question what they say.
As ever it is always open to interpretation.0 -

"Since it's formation in 1999, Landlord Action has acted on approximately 17,000 eviction instructions. Most of these vases (61%) are resolved after serving an initial eviction notice, however the remaining 39% require a possession order from the courts and almost half of these will require a bailiff to physically evict the tenant."
Especially considering that Landlord Action is likely called in to deal with the harder cases.0 -
Artful - unnamed in-house writer or is there an author's name next to the article?

I wouldn't neccessarily accept what they say the MP has said.

As ever it is always open to interpretation.Mention of the EDM is new since their meeting IIRC. I would write and ask Mike Weatherley MP if he does support Suzy Butler's campaign as claimed on her facebook, but his attention is probably fully occupied elsewhere right now.
