Tent thread

I assumed there would be a thread discussing last nights Nightmare Tenant program on ITV, but this is the only thing on a forum search.
Odd.
There were some comments last night about that program.
And I think there are plenty of Nightmare Landlords, athough they are rare, as program said nightmare tenants are rare.0 -
We have a Mission update. My bold.Basic Info Founded:2010
Detailed info Company
Overview:
Earlier this year Suzy Butler
founder of charity Kiya Survivors let her house in Hove, to Carmen Nobre in February while
she spent two months helping poverty-stricken communities in Peru.
Despite being on an assured shorthold tenancy and having agreed she would leave the property when Miss Butler and four-year-old Bruno returned, the unwelcome guest is still
there.
Miss Butler said: “She told me she had lost a lot of money on the stock exchange and couldn’t pay her rent. I tried to reason with her but she said she couldn’t pay and she
wouldn’t leave.
The dispute has meant Miss Butler relying on the charity of others and ruined her dream to move to Spain to give her son a better life. Now she fears she cannot outstay her
welcome any longer.
She said: “We are facing the prospect of living in a tent in a friend’s garden. I can’t believe
it has come to this but there’s no way I can afford to rent somewhere and pay a mortgage
and there’s only so long we can stay with friends.” (read less)

Mission:
Leading on from the successful campaign to help Suzy Butler legally reclaim her home , The focus of this page is now to encourage support for a rebalancing of the tenant
/landlord eviction process. To protect homeowners from being abused and exploited by deliberately unscrupulous tennants.0 -
oh my God! I've just spent a very loooong time reading through this and I am horrified at the way this has been represented. Surely someone has to answer for what has been done here? Illegal evictions, shocking contract clauses ('agreed to move out on her return'? '£15 a day late fees'), breach of quiet enjoyment just to begin with. - I know these things are not exactly new news in the world of LL/T but to vomit yourself all over the news like this as if you were Mother Teresa?
Surely there is a case for libel here too?
Did you guys get anywhere with Private Eye? Does anybody fancy contacting New Statesmen with a summary events (someone who is a bit closer to it than me as I have only just got hold of this!) - I imagine they would love it!House saving Targets:

Like ones who add £15/day clauses, serve illegal eviction notices, harass & victimise their tenant in front of media, don't understand tenancies, tenancy law or rights & responsibilities of tenant & landlord.0 -

Errr...... as far as I can tell, there's been nothing legal about this whole sorry mess from start to finish (notice of eviction, harrassment, late rent fees to name but 3) .... but let's not stop a little fact like that get in the way of the publicity machine shall we?
I fancy being a brain surgeon tomorrow but have no formal training and haven't researched it - who's up for a brain transplant?BCSC # 9 and proud! :beer:0 -
I didn't get a response from private eye, but I use a common webmail service and would not be surprised if it got stuck in a spam filter. Would recommend people contact them as well if they feel like it.0
